This was my first experience at TinkerMill's monthly Repair Café, and it was excellent. All the volunteers were happy to be there and contribute to a great cause, which is to promote sustainability and reduce waste.
I brought in a hairdryer with a damaged cord and a toaster oven with a broken temperature control. While I had a fix in mind for the hairdryer, the volunteer who helped me suggested a more elegant solution, and we went with that. The toaster oven required diagnosis, and the repair was a lot easier than we'd anticipated. There were no guarantees, but two for two--YAY! I liked that I got to assist with the repairs and am hoping in the future, I could learn how to actually have more hands-on experience (like with the soldering) and have someone instructing/overseeing me.
This was a wonderful opportunity to learn how to repair household items, and I love that they will now have a longer useable life. While I was there, I also learned more about the classes and events TinkerMill hosts as well as the kinds of equipment and supplies available to make cool stuff. THIS is a real neighborhood gem, and I recommend you check...
Read moreVisited this place, it's amazing and great for hobbyists or those looking to start something new. You have access to different shop so your never bored, always something new to try. Some reviews complain about the addition workshop fees like use of equipment, lessons, or tools. Here is why I think those complains are silly. It's a non- profit meaning they function off donations and membership fees. Classes do cost money because it's the teacher's time that you are using. And yes, some workshops ask that you pay for some materials, cause you know, they aren't cheap! As an example, for stainglass, they have a price list. Some colors and types of glass are more expensive than others due to the dye that is use. They dont require you to use their materials. I have stainglass at home that I will be using, plus I can always buy my own. You get to choose what you pay for. They will do their best to work with you. If your expecting a free workshop and everyone to just give you stuff, look somewhere else. This is a real workshop with...
