Reading all of these negative reviews about the campground, I will now share my family's experience. This is one place that we will never return to. When we first arrived we loved it. I was there when the woman many have spoken of started her first day. She was polite and helpful. Believe it or not, she was pleasant. The next day it was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! I witnessed on more than one occasion this woman degrade customers. She also argued with some and talked down to those who asked for her assistance. One particular day a deaf couple arrived and they didn't understand her when she rudely "spoke" to them without looking at them. She ordered them to read the board on the building instead of being a decent human being and extending her assistance. I took it upon myself to grab paper and pen to assist them. They were extremely grateful. She treats guests as more of a burden than human beings. If the kiosk didn't read cards multiple times she would argue with the guest and tell them it is a problem with their bank. Mind you at check in there would be numerous guests waiting to pay for their sites with cards and it wouldn't read any of them. But still they were talked down to and made to feel incompetent by someone who obviously has no business working in Customer Service. My husband contacted and complained management and nothing was ever done even after they were threatened with the media. The day we were scheduled to leave she let someone rent our site that we weren't even out of yet. We had to get an extension which was approved by the manager and she still informed a guest that the site would be available. When she spoke to me rudely I finally stood up and told her we had already filed a complaint against her for the way she treated guests and her response blew me away. She said to me "I bet you did but what happened? Nothing because I am still here!" Then she angrily said "I do hope you all never come back here." It is obvious that either the Commissioner's Office doesn't read these reviews or they turn a blind eye and allow ignorance to belittle guests who pay everyone of their salaries. There is so much more such as other guests complaining about her as well but I...
Read moreHad a family trip to the fair today. Parking was great and there was plenty of free parking. The lot is gravel but they had painted lines. As you walk in you start the isle of food vendors (always my favorite) but the seductive smell of the high calorie deliciousness was completely masked by poo. Directly behind the food carts was the livestock and barns. Nothing quite like eating a corn dog while inhaling the sweet scent of manure. So, with loss of appetite we continue on to the animals. Spectacular! What a great time viewing all of the 4-H's work. Spent some time scratching the piggies and petting the goats. The barns were nice from a spectator's perspective. Also, running water and flushing toilets are a huge plus for a fair! They had ribbons for everything! Sewing, baking, vegetables, homework, art... Not sure what the list of possible entries were but it must be long! Then there was a strange corner that was mixed with food, vendors and Democrats?! It had a few "rides"; bounce house and balloons on water that were not part of the bracelet deal but an additional $6 & $5 respectively. Skip. On to the rides, the gem of the fair. It was dead. Yes, no lines, but we stood forever waiting to run rides because there were only one or two people. And "no single riders" sincerely sucks when it's dead. So, take out kiddie rides and the ones with 2+ riders and you had about 5/6 rides. For $25. Hmm. Tokens are $1=1 token. Rides cost $3-6 PER RIDE! So you get a bracelet for unlimited rides, $25 to find you are doing one ride on repeat for 2 hours? I'm thinking it's worth the trip to Elitches. And the game booths don't take cash, safety precautions I suppose. So you walk past a booth but you can't play because you have to first buy tokens. Who is going to voluntarily go purchase $5 in tokens, go find the game again and try and win the $2 stuffie with the elimination of impulse or pressure? No one. They were all dead. They did a good job of having umbrellas and tents for shade though. That was a nice surprise. And at the end of the day we did have fun. We're highly unlikely to ever return...
Read moreThis fair is so close to home it's a wonder I have never been before. Growing up in New England county fairs are not only a pastime but a rite of passage (particularly when your folks let you roam free for the first time).
I was surprised to see that this fair was not only free but had very sparse attendees. It was a Saturday afternoon and though a bit on the warm side an awesome day weather wise.
The fair was spread out with the rides on one side, a lane of carnival food offerings (all the usual fried stuffs and cotton candy of course) and then a row of buildings housing the different 4-H and animal events. The signage (particularly for the animal shows/events) wasn't the greatest. We made several attempts to enter a couple of the buildings and were met with locked doors each time. I would have found it extremely helpful to have volunteers/staff at the entrances to give folks some information regarding the fair as well as a lay of the land.
The building displaying the vendors and 4-H competition was easy to access. I loved looking at all the ribbon winners of the quilting, cake decorating competition, and flower growers. There was even a guinea pig competition with a young gal showcasing Nebula (a long haired friendly two toned beast I was able to pet).
Outside under some tents here were some interesting sales taking place - sugar gliders as well as some hermit crabs that were climbing masters (the staffers informed me that they were actually tree climbing crabs). They had super fun painted shells (I saw at least 3 batman hermit crabs, I deeply regret not taking a pic to share). The hermit crabs were free with purchase of a cage ($30 - I thought this was quite steep) and an additional painted shell was just $2.
Sadly I didn't make it over to the rides but it looked like they had some great upside-down, stomach churners.
Overall super family friendly event. Easy to find and numerous bathrooms, and the fairgrounds themselves were kept...
