Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) — Local services in Los Angeles

Horrible services!! Last Monday I called 311 for the inspection and emailed the junior inspector to schedule for Friday 3/13/2020 inspection. No inspector showed up. I called 311 again and informed nobody picked up the work yet. It seemed like bureacrats who worked over the inspection division of LADBS that did not like to do work and provide services for the general public.

On Feb 25,2022 I went to LADBS again, the receptionist in the lobby was helpful but I got an impression that other staffs weren't accountable since 311 staff in the bldg N Safety called back n told me to call the senior inspector but he never called back. I felt like I had wasted my money $2500 and time dealing with this LADBS. Since the receptionist stated I could renew or extended my permits, but the plan checker told me to resubmit just like a new building plan. I deceided not to make any addition since I could not keep on wasting money and got running around like this. Their staffs were not professional and helpful. I even called some licensed contractors but a couple of them stating that the city of Los Angeles inspectors were so picky and time consumming so they would not do any job over there since one year project probably would take more than one year and half or two years for the inspectors to scrutiny the whole processes. The WORST building department. My office submitted a solar permit application in April. Permit was approved but was not issued. Have tried contacting the permit tech consistently and have not been able to get through. Have tried contacting multiple supervisors and the secretaries just tell me to email them or call them directly. No response on email, no call back. Was finally able to talk to the permit tech assigned to my file and he apparently no longer works for the city. It is not late August and still no movement. Have been given emails and phone numbers from 5 supervisors. Sent one of our office staff in person, and was basically told that they can't do anything because the permit tech assigned is the only one that can issue the permit. (BUT HE NO LONGER WORKS THERE) So now my question was who did it get reassigned to if he no longer works there. I am getting frustrated that it seems like no one works in that department and "Supervisors" are non existent because voicemails cannot be left as the voicemail boxes are full, automatic emails are sent back that they are away from the office for unknown reasons. At this point we are just going to proceed without a permit as clearly the building department does not care.
