Overall an okay experience. Pros and Cons. Below. I stayed in two king suites on the Green Tower.
I travel a lot for work (70-120 nights a year) and usually like to stay at Marriott properties for location, standardized service, amenities, and consistency. The status with Marriott is usually pretty useless compared to competitors like Hyatt & IHG when it comes to preferential treatment and upgrades. Westin Hotel is usually a preferred brand choice for me if and when available in the city I am traveling to.
Cons:
This Westin is desperate for a remodel. It’s been a while since I’ve seen popcorn ceilings and yellow wall paper at a Westin property. 90’s decor, warm temperature lights all play into the older interior facade.
When I checked in, I immediately noticed a foul smell coming from the sheets and pillow covers of the bed. I can only describe this foulness as a teenager who hasn’t showered in a few days or wore the same gym shirt for several days and rolled around in the bed. I immediately called and asked for new ‘everything’ on the bed. They were quick to accommodate. The only issue was that one of the pillow covers and the flat sheet still smelled of this residue. Terrible. We were moved to another room and everything seems to be in working order, except that same mildew/mold/bacteria smell can be whiffed in the shower curtains with a good amount of pungency. We decided to just bite the bullet because we didn’t want to pack and move rooms again. The bathroom door will remain closed. Thankfully the suite has another half bathroom that was “clean”.
Lastly, we noticed that the room needs detailed cleaning over all. The carpets seem like they were original from the 90s, but they offer slippers, so request them and use them. It’s with the hotel’s compliments. Aka. Free. The bathroom sconce had a lot of rust only attributing to the unclean feeling.
Pros:
Customer service had been great, attentive, and showed genuine care and hospitality (which is harder to achieve than you think)
Valet parking was convenient at ~$50+ per night. You just have to scan a QR code for the car to be ready downstairs. Yes, overnight guests get in/out privileges.
Location is good if you need to stay in downtown. —
Overall, I don’t think I will be a return guest. Once you doubt sanitation and cleanliness, it’s a hard recovery from there. But this is a 1600+ room machine, and any upgrades or remodel will be done in segments if it passes the business case.
Marriott, please raise the your brand standards… we all know you have the most keys globally and don’t want to lose the #1 status as the Hotel Giant in both revenue and market share. Your guests...

would not recommend! We had booked our reservation for 4 nights but after first day i cancelled the rest & rebooked elsewhere. From the moment we got to this Westin Hotel in downtown LA we noticed that its an older hotel. Which is fine but the floor we stayed at wreaked of a nasty toilet smell not sure if it was just the hotel or sewer line issue. This smell was inside our room too. The room which was a tower suite was just plain dirty. Nasty curtains with stains, carpet had dried food all over. Dirty bed you could feel particles inside when you pull the comforter over. Water pressure in bathrooms was awefully slow which ok i can understand that part being a huge highrise hotel . Dirty Dirty windows, all furniture was barely wiped down. Super dirty & had dry food or drink spots. DUST all over the lights fixtures, room. There is a bar & grill on level 4 where the pool area is at. We had lunch there - All frozen & reheated stuff. Absolute garbage! One waiter who was also bartending, taking customers [ thankfully from what we saw was only 3 customers at thst time] and my husband saw only one "cook" which could be why the just served frozen/ reheated. We then decided to hit the poolside - small size pool, SOOOOOO dirty , no cleaning was done apparently as there was bugs & food particles. All along the corners there was some nasty black mold or mildew or something growing. I had to get my 5 year old to just stay in one are so not to touch whatever that was.
We had reserved a package inclusive of vallet parking & daily breakfast buffet. We ate breakfast the morning of the day we cancelled out. The breakfast was bland, scrambled eggs were slopped in somekind of lowgrade oil or waterdown. Smelled sooooo bad from the second i took off the lid. Pancakes were gross & floppy. Everything was just cold like there was not heat under them. We had to stop by & grab something to eat after. The westin bonventure at downtown LA highly disappoints what you see on their site is far different than what you get. Be warned!
Ive stayed at Westin [Anahiem] when we went to Disneyland & that was the reason we booked a Westin again. But apparently they are NOT the same in anyway. The Anahiem Westin was really amazing in every way. This one is just plain disgusting. I would love for someone from corporate to take a real hardlook at the website picture & the reality of their hotel. Stop misleading people. I would NEVER have booked this stay had i known. But at least they cancelled the remainder of my stay without even asking me reason. Maybe the staff knows why & has seen many cancellations after...
Read moreWhile the positive was our getting upgraded, the rest was a bit unexpected for a hotel of your caliber. First, it was just obvious you are understaffed in the lobby. I checked in on line but the room description did not match anything in the lobby directing me which elevator to take. And unless I was willing to stand in the long check in line, no one was around to ask. When we got to our room, I went out to look for ice. The ice machine did not work. I tried calling service express from a phone by the ice machine but I was put on an endless hold. I gave up and returned to our room. From there, sitting at the desk, I tried again to call service express. The phone cable fell off and I had to reach under the desk to reconnect the phone. When I called, I waited a long time again and finally got someone. Their answer to the "ice machine is not working" was I'll report it sir. There are other ice machines on the x, x and x floors (don't remember). I am mobility restricted so while going down the hall was ok, going up to another floor was more of an issue so I asked if someone could deliver it. Yes, was the answer. The ice never came. Fortunately, my sister and cousin were a couple floors above us so they directed us to the proper elevator in the lobby, and they went out to get ice. The reason for our stay was the Dodgers victory parade. We knew traffic would be crazy so we tried leaving the hotel around 945am to be at Dodger Stadium within an hour. Your parking staff (whether they are 3rd party or not, they represent you) were slow. Specifically with us. We took almost an hour to get our vehicle even though there were dead periods in there. When we kept pointing out we were on a time restriction, the girl staffing the desk would say "yes, we're working on it" and run to some back room, pretending to do something but not wanting to deal with me. By the time we received our vehicle, the streets were closed and it took us so long to get to Dodger Stadium that we almost missed the victory celebration. Your hotel is well placed and has a nice set up and view, which is why we've stayed several times. I don't see us staying again given how expensive your parking lot is but how slow their service is, how few employees seem to work in the lobby and how many service issues there were. Things that were supposed to work did not and it really seemed hard to get anyone to care. I will repost this as a...
