This was our first time taking the fly away. We came from Palmdale California and had an early morning flight. So my advice when going early morning. Just know the traffic was very mild and we arrived at LAX way too early. We had a 5:00 a.m. flight and planned on being at the airport. 2 hours early per recommendations. However, arriving at LAX at 3:00 a.m. was a big waste of time because literally not one thing opened up at the airport until 3:45 a.m.. there was nowhere to check our luggage and there were no TSA lines open until 3:45. So if you're going in early, the ride from Van nuys to LAX was under 25 minutes. So keep that in mind. When we arrived back at LAX we were at the United terminal. Upon talking to an airline attendant, they advised us to walk to at least terminal 5 to be closer to the middle of the airport as United being at terminal 7 is at the end of the loop. And typically what happens with the FlyAway buses is that they are full by the time it gets to terminal 7. If so, you may have a longer than normal wait, unless you're ready to hoof it a few terminals down. Like I said we walked down to terminal 5 and the bus was about halfway full and we were able to get on without any problems there. but the bus was full after that and our bus did not stop at terminal 6 or 7:00. Just went straight to Van nuys. I recommend booking online and paying for your car ahead of time online. If you do that, you literally just pull up to the gate and they already have your license plate number in their system and the gate will automatically open when you enter and will automatically open when you leave. It was easy peasy, And I will definitely always pay ahead of time online. We also downloaded the app and paid ahead of time for our tickets and just used the app to scan in on the bus. When using the app your tickets will just sit there and then right before you get on the bus you pull up the app and then activate your ticket. Do not activate the tickets ahead of time as they are only active for a short window. But it also made it easy to simply have the tickets downloaded on our phones. Hope this helps guys. Definitely a great option if you're having to travel to LAX. And the cheapest parking in town at six bucks a day. And for the record, the parking was...
Read moreI dont know what is going on with the Fly Away from LAX to Van Nuys but I can't recommend them to family or friends if they are arriving at Terminal 5. A group of us waited over an hour and a half for a shuttle on Saturday night, July 26th (into Sunday morning) and even though the schedule posted was arrival every 20 mins, only 2 busses stopped (to Van Nuys) hour and a half time spa and both buses were full could only take a few customers and 2nd bus could not take anyone with any luggage). The 2 bus drivers who were driving the busses to Van Nuys (one male & 1 female) were the RUDEST people ever. The male exited his bus actually yelling at those of us standing there waiting before a single customer spoke to him (disgraceful representation of the FlyAway brand), when customers asked if he could call for a bus to come directly to terminal 5 so those of us waiting for an hour could get on a bus he said "CALL AN UBER"! Nice to know he doesn't support his employer nor have any customer service skills. The female driver of the 2nd bus was just rude and she too shouldn't be working with the public. An hour and 45 mins later a 3rd bus did show up and rude customers who had only been standing outside terminal 5 for 25 mins tried to get on the bus before those of us who had been waiting for an hour & 45 mins and thankfully th7s nice male employee made sure all of us who had been waiting got on his shuttle and told the others he would get them a bus. He had great customer service and remained calm throughout!! But to be treated so rudely by the 1st 2 drivers (not me directly but the 20 of us waiting for a bus) for no reason at all and to actually wait 1 hour 45 mins at LAX terminal 5 at 9:45-10:00 pm is poor customer service and way over their posted bus arrival times of every 20 mins, especially when the 405 FWY was showing clear w/zero delays or traffic. Sorry FlyAway (Van...
Read moreThis company needs to train employees for pickup. On 6/17 at approximately 3:50pm a female bus driver at the international terminal had absolutely no line control and was physically unable to adequately load luggage which led to people cutting in line and people from the front of the line being irritated.
When the people from the front of the line tried to say something the bus driver and the couple began yelling at each other which then led to the bus driver closing the luggage hatch despite there still being 1 empty and a partially empty bus. The luggage also was all laid flat which was inefficient.
This led to more yelling between the couple and the bus driver and then the bus driver left approximately 15 of us who had been waiting in line.
Then 2 more Van Nuys busses that were empty passed by. The 2nd one the driver was laughing (I'm assuming at us since he was alone).
From the time that original bus driver left paying customers stranded it was almost an hour and a half. This is completely unacceptable especially since we should have been on that original bus.
I will never use this service again and people should really consider whether saving a few hundred dollars is worth the headache...
