Beware of Deceptive Practices at Violet on Virgil – Unprofessional & Misleading
If you are considering renting from Violet on Virgil or working with Vive LA, BEWARE of their deceptive and unprofessional business practices. As a first-time renter, I took all the necessary steps, followed their guidance, and acted in good faith—only to be misled, disregarded, and ultimately left without the apartment I was approved for and paid a holding deposit on.
Here’s what happened:
I first requested a tour for an apartment at Violet on Virgil and, on 1/26, received a call from a leasing agent at Vive LA. He encouraged me to apply immediately for a studio listed at $1,450, claiming it was a great deal and would go fast. Trusting their word, I submitted my application and supporting documents, and I was approved for the apartment at the price of $1,450.
On 1/28, I called the leasing agent to ask about next steps, and he informed me that the property manager from Violet on Virgil would be contacting me. However, later that day, I received another call from the same leasing agent, who suddenly told me there was a "glitch in the system" and the listing was incorrectly priced.
Let’s be clear: This was the same person who pressured me to apply quickly because it was a "great deal." At NO POINT did he suggest the price might be incorrect. I was already approved and had paid a holding fee for the apartment at $1,450.
When I asked if they would honor the price, given that I applied based on their direct instruction, I was told there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a manager and was told someone would reach out.
About 30 minutes later, I received an email from General Manager Denisse Ayala, who refused to honor the price, despite my approval and payment of a holding fee. She provided two phone numbers in her email—BOTH were disconnected.
I called the leasing agent back, and he claimed Denisse was in a meeting and would call me back in an hour. At this point, I had zero direct contact with a manager, despite multiple attempts.
The next call I received was from Shannice, a leasing agent at Violet on Virgil. She was extremely rude, unprofessional, and dismissive. She refused to let me or my cousin speak. She said it wasn't her problem and there was nothing they could do. After keeping us on hold for 25 minutes, she never came back. When we tried to negotiate a middle ground at $1,600, she dismissed us outright.
Still, the General Manager Denisse Ayala never personally addressed the issue, and I was left dealing with rude, dismissive staff who refused to take responsibility for their false advertising and misleading practices.

I feel completely taken advantage of by Violet on Virgil and Vive LA. Their dishonest practices, refusal to take responsibility, and unprofessional staff made this a horrible experience. Instead of admitting fault, they wasted my time, ignored my rights, and left me scrambling to find a new apartment.
If this happens to you, know your rights and take legal action. I am moving forward with my legal case against them and will not let this go.
Save yourself the stress and STAY AWAY FROM VIOLET ON VIRGIL!

Read moreLiving at Violet on Virgil was without a doubt the worst renting experience of my life, I urge anyone considering renting here to run fast and run far. Management is entirely unhelpful for anything beyond signing your lease and locking you in for a year, whether this is due to maliciousness or sheer incompetence is unclear, but it doesn't matter, it's going to be your problem.
Attention to detail doesn't exist here, get used to constant issues and the absolute bare minimum to fix it. Fire alarms go off constantly, hot water goes out multiple times a month, when you should have a discount applied to your account they'll charge you instead, maintenance will enter your home with no warning and the leasing office insists that's their policy (no, Nataly, that's actually illegal), drug dealers operate out of the building and let their customers run throughout the property, management will threaten to tow your car despite the permit being in plain view, a crazy woman screams her head off all hours of the day, you'll find no shortage of things to drive you insane while you live here.
The leasing office all share a single brain cell. I wish I was joking. I don't know what they do there all day, but it's never anything productive. The Property Manager, Kenderick Carter, has no business running a bed and breakfast, much less an apartment building. I had to track him down several times when I was charged double for parking when it was supposed to be compensated, he's just pleasant enough to get you leave him alone, then he carries on ignoring you unless you're watching him like a frustrated parent watches a toddler. Be prepared to pester management to get even the smallest thing done. Pro tip: Nataly and Amber in the leasing office have no idea what they're doing, better to deal with one of the more normal (we're stretching the definition of normal here) workers so you MIGHT get your issue solved. Don't count on it.
To make a long story short, if you held a gun to my head and told me I had to rent from these clowns again, I'd tell you to shoot me. It'd be less of a hassle.
EDIT 11/16/23 - Three months after moving out and paying off the final balance, the leasing office is now trying to collect more money for outstanding charges that they "assessed based on a walk through of your apartment post move-out" - even though this process was completed months ago. Again, whether this is incompetence or a malicious response to this review is unclear, but proves that even once you've washed your hands of these nimrods, they'll still find a way to make their piss-poor management your problem. For the sake of your own sanity, do not rent from these people, they have absolutely no idea what...
Read moreLiving here was a nightmare. They're more focused on bringing in new residents than they are with the current residents. When I sent in my notice to leave the new manager Kendrick called me within the hour. Even after our conversation I decided to move out and it took him two weeks to send me the move out information, and I had to ask for it multiple times. Also, Ashly sent out a notice that the pool was opening up, I let her know I was an at risk person and needed the area around my balcony kept clear so I wouldn't get sick. She told me, I'm sorry you're unhappy and literally did nothing. She actually does not value the life of the residents. I lived by the pool, it was loud all day during the weekends and after school/work got out on the weekdays, until it was shut down for maintenance for three months pre-COVID. During COVID, management decided to continue pool renovations from 7 am to 5 pm during lockdown quarantine for all the residents to listen to. Not only that but they were bringing in extra workers into the building when it wasn't necessary causing the residents unnecessary exposure to COVID. Other residents would leave trash outside their door in the hallway or leave trash in the trash room instead of using the garbage chute. The backside of the building always has trash dumped on the sidewalk and an Andy gump, it was there the whole time I lived there. The neighborhood that surrounds it is also covered in trash and most of the the sidewalks have dog excrement. I was followed by a white truck in the neighborhood multiple times during my walks in the afternoon. The laundry rooms were often dirty with multiple machines broken. The machine that loads your laundry card has been broken for over a year, you have to go a building over to reload the card. In addition, the laundry machines in the other building are set at a lower cost per load. Also there was a situation with fleas when I moved in and people were getting fleas when they walked between the two buildings to put money on their laundry cards or go to the gym. At one point the maintenance men tried to enter my apartment without a notice. I denied them, then they left a notice on my door of maintenance. I notified management. Management then told me that there was no maintenance request and not to let anyone into my apartment. It was very strange. Honestly the list of complaints goes on, but overall save yourself and don’t live here.
Just noticed that they responded to my review. Unless y’all plan on giving me my money back, don’t you dare ask to...
