Never ceases to give me the familiar homey feeling of being back home in Bangladesh. Don’t let the hole in the wall outlook fool you, this is a great place. The grocery section almost always has more or less everything you’ll need to cook any Bangladeshi dish. They have a really wide selection, ranging from indigenous (to BD) fish or spices to deserts and prepped packets of different food. The staff here is really nice and friendly. Unlike a lot of the other ethnic places I’ve been to, the staff is actually welcoming to people who’re not the same ethnicity. The restaurant was pretty good too. The food they served hit really close to home. I took my Salvadorian friend here. And she absolutely loved it. My fav part, tbh, was the fact they only gave her utensils when we ordered. My first reaction was “THEY KNEEEEEWWW! 🤣 “ For those who don’t know, it is tradition to eat with your hands. So they were respecting tradition. Don’t throw a hissy fit. I went back and asked for my set of utensils because I didn’t want my hands smelling like biriyani, coz I’d never stop craving it otherwise 🤤 As for the food, you absolutely ought to try their Kachchi Biriyani (mutton), Beef Biriyani, chicken roll (absolute must as an appetizer). Sadly, I never asked, but see if they have fuchka. That’s...
Read moreI would never have chosen to come here had it not been for word of mouth. It's a typical southern Asian (mainly Bengali) grocery store. Not much to look at, so don't go by the looks. Parking is in the back. We came here when it was pouring so got parking spots but I doubt you'd be able to find them on a regular day and it is supremely difficult to get the car out of that lot. Might as well park on the street if you can.
Now onto the food. The fish curry was deliciousness personified. We ordered rohu which was cooked really well and had great flavor. I was warned that Bengali food may not live up to my expectations of spicy but this was very well-seasoned and made me happy. We ordered a white rice and a chapati to go with it. The chapati was huge and more like a laccha paratha. Decent when hot, difficult to break when it got colder.
We ordered a chicken biryani too, which was just ok. Tasted better the next day when we had it for leftovers. But this place is not the place for biryani.
The rasgulla we had for dessert was ok, a little too sweet for us. We had wanted the dessert that had a pink middle but didn't know the right name to get it across to the person.
Definitely come here for the fish curry. Big thumbs...
Read moreThe worst experience ever!!!! If you are reading this post, my earnest request to you all is, NEVER WASTE YOUR MONEY in this place. My wife and I are regular customers of them. We always used to buy a minimum of $200 - $300 during each visit. We live in central California and usually drive to SoCal to buy our Desi groceries or food items. Recently, we made a purchase of $500 and ordered 50 chicken/egg rolls and 100 shami kabab. Not only they increased their prices more than double, they messed up our chicken/egg roll order. To our surprise when we came home and tried a few of them, we found bunch of small bones, chicken necks and wings in some of the chicken rolls. I made the purchase for a small party and luckily our try outs nearly save a big embarrassment for us. The following day when we called them, they tried to dodge it by saying that "we usually put a few necks and wings in our mixture of chicken rolls" which doesn't make since there is a choking hazard. They should be lucky that I was nice enough not to call the city inspector's office and report this incident. Fyi, I added some pictures of the bones I found. Hopefully, you find this post helpful and never make your visit...
