If you're looking to save money on your grocery it's worth the trip. Some may say the food is expired but the fact of the matter is quite the contrary.
In most cases the products are past their shelf life at "normal" stores. Stores like Giant rotate out their products based on how fast the products sell and this rate dwindles down the closer to a products sell date. Think of it like buying milk, most people always choose the 12th over the 10th as an example. Even though that milk will almost always be consumed before it's best by date.
Same rule applies here, only the products are either within a week of their best by dates or a year. Example can of beans expires 18 months from purchase at Giant. Same can of beans expires in 6 months at Sharp shopper. If you are served each can of beans blind folded you won't taste a difference.
Now some products are sold past their best by dates here. But they aren't expired. Generally you can allow a couple weeks in this case. If something is frozen before it's best by date, it will last a year frozen without losing nutrition, not much to be fair. Unless it becomes freezer burned.
And last is if food you buy is bad in anyway, including you think it tastes like it went bad, bring the remainder of the food and your receipt for a full refund. But make sure you read their policy since I'm not an official.
Some great buys I've found: 32ct Mott's organic applesauce $4.99. best by 6 months.
Perdue boneless skinless chicken breast 5ct individual $3.99 frozen 2 weeks before freeze by date.
Grape-nuts original 580g cereal $1.49 best by 3 months.

Read moreThis place is huge. There's a varying selection that changes often. Don't expect to find a certain item. Dry goods aisle is my favorite but expensive. They always have individual serving caffeinated beverages which I've purchased and are always disgusting. Good selection of well priced coffee grounds tho, which if a big plus if you're a coffee drinker (little to no decaf).
Fruit & veg selection has expanded. You can find everything from dish soap to kids books. Some things are cheaper than the standard grocery store and some things aren't. Extensive Goya section which is way overpriced. Bath tissue and paper towels, aluminum chafing dishes, chips and pretzel variety is good.
Today I got 2 almond milks for $1 and guess what. They expired 10 days ago! I think this place is way overrated. It's a fun random excursion in a town where there's nothing to do but I wouldn't say you've got a smart shopper status from going here. Just a limited selection of dry goods, some of which are expired and their attempts to fill in the gaps in the refrigerated section. You cannot have a healthy, well balanced diet if this is the only place you shop. Lastly, decent prices on spices. That is...
Read moreThey lost a star in my book. Each year they have a yard sale twice in a parking lot beside the store. nice little yard sale for sure. Here's what urked me. Since 1986 , harrisburg has not had an air show ,and, this year the blue angels showed up(and did not disappoint) . We parked in the parking lot, walked up to the street behind the store, watched the air show and went for our monthly shopping) we parked at another stores parking lot in the plaza since they were closed. Here's what happened, the parking lot that they use twice a year, people began parking there to watch the planes. Management came out and had a fit because they were there, parking in the lot they never use through out the summer. They were writing down license plates numbers telling people if they are done shopping they need to leave . Now most , not all, were customers of the plaza to begin with. I just thought it was kind of rude for them to do that when there were tons of empty parking spaces. I shop at 4 different sharp shoppers but I've never seen the management of the others be so ...un mennontitish...
