Stop & Shop — Local services in Manchester

This used to be my least favorite supermarket location for a few reasons. But because they are less than 5 blocks away and Shop rite was much further and then Shaw's closure years ago limited nearby choices. I reluctantly purchased my groceries there unless I was coming back home from further away. I often preferred the Vernon store when I was nearby instead.

In 2018, they renovated this location to be on par with other Stop and Shop locations. The produce and deli sections have been expanded. It has better lighting, new and more but smaller automated cashier machines, more variety of groceries and a repaved parking lot. All of those upgrades were overdue and welcomed improvements. Some of the rude cashier employees no longer work there or are reassigned somewhere else because I no longer see them.

Somethings haven't changed unfortunately. The produce hasn't been always fresh so I won't purchase produce from this location unless I plan to use it that day or the very next day. I just had a lot of "rotten" luck with produce purchased from this location. That hasn't changed. I would have preferred if they used the extra space they widened in the produce section to spread out the aisles further apart so there would be more maneuvering space for multiple carts. The back roads behind the supermarket is always littered with moon crater sized pot holes. I don't know if that is under their control. But you easily damage your vehicles alignment reaching this location from those back roads. It has been a problem for 15 years.

I think there is still room for improvements. One idea I wish all supermarkets would do is remove the cash ingestiors in the automated cashiers and make them accept cards only. People feeding them old bills just defeats the purpose of having these machines there to speed up check out. Cash should be left for the human cashiers instead who are better able to handle situations with disfigured or worn out currency bills...

Update:. S&S now allows customers to decide for themselves whether to wear a mask.

This is good news!!

Another update: Still have not seen my refund... Went back to the store today and looked through the bakery. All the packaged bakery items I saw now have a 'sell by' date on them in addition to the 'packed on' date. This is good. Plus 1 star.

Update to my update: So I spoke with customer service and they are going to refund my money for the stale baked goods. That's good. I'll add a star.

Lesson learned: 'packed on' date is not a good indicator of freshness. All that tells the customer is when the food was put in the container. It says nothing about how long the food has been sitting on the shelf before that. Oh well...

Update. Is it just me or has the bakery been going down hill? Twice now I've bought items from the bakery with recent 'packed on' dates and found the items to be stale and inedible. I used to really like their baked goods.

New self checkout setup is no good if you have more than a few items. There is no place to put your groceries if you have more than will fit in 2 bags. If you're trying figure out where to put things, the register nags you to keep scanning. Very...

I was at the register yesterday and the African American girl name Natasha that works there she was very rude and unprofessional at the register with the person that was infront of me. She didn’t even say hello, not even a greet nor smile. She kept on giving the person infront of me attitude. I even put the divider on the belt and instead of finishing the transaction, she took the divider off and continuing scanning, I had to stop her because she wasn’t paying attention on what she was doing. She was too busy giving the person that was infront of me a hard time. When she rang up my stuff she didn’t even scan my card so I lost out on my savings. I had shown her my card thinking she did scanned it, but she didn’t. You guys shouldn’t hire people like that. I always shop there and the customer service has always been great. Except for yesterday experience and if this kind of behavior with your staff at the register continue on like this I will stop shopping with your location and go to Key food or even Shop rite. If I had the time I would of asked to speak...
