Beauty Plaza — Local services in Memphis

First and foremost, the selection of wigs and hair products is very nice and the store is kept tidy. They have a rewards program which sets them apart from other beauty supply stores and up until tonight I would have considered them to have good customer service with no apparent profiling. My experience tonight was unacceptable to say the least. I was minding my own business looking for a wig when an older lady employee approached me asking if I needed help. No problem. I told her I didn’t at the moment and that I was just looking. She said ok and then proceeded to go into detail about where she would be located in the store and that it’s a customer violation to touch the hair then spoke in a different language to a male employee. I assume she told him to watch me and not allow me to touch the hair because the male employee came from the front of the store where he was sitting to the back where we were and didn’t leave. I continued to browse the wigs because store policy is store policy right? Wrong. I walked up an aisle to find an older black woman touching a wig I assume she was interested in and the lady that gave the speech to me looked at her but didn’t say anything to her about not touching the hair nor where she would be located in the store. I asked the employee why she sought and singled me out but not the other lady to which she didn’t respond. I left the store after that and will no longer be returning for this reason. I was a frequent customer until now but I don’t understand how this business can expect me to buy a wig that can’t be returned or exchanged after buying not to touch the product on the mannequin to feel the quality...

They are just your average beauty suppy store. They DO have a rewards program that is great for frequent visitors. Last time I was there, there were black women's faces plastered on the entry doors!! I usually AVOID all businesses who post shoplifters pictures on their doors. What is the purpose?? This is a slap in the face to ALL black patrons because they are the ones who keep you in business!! Imagine if Walmart or Target did this. It is 2023!!! If ANYONE sees this display of disrespect of our culture at any hair shop, you should promptly organize a good old boycott of the store with picket signs and all. Leave that mess for the police to handle!! This should not be tolerated going forward. A news program highlighting this blatant disrespect...

I love this store. It’s my favorite beauty supply. The people are friendly and they have a public restroom for customers. I love that they don’t assume all people want to steal from them because we don’t. This store is great and I hope that it stays that way. Thanks...
