I was a student here on the Advanced Cosmetology program. Overall, I had a pleasant experience here in Milan. The advice I can tell anyone considering going here or to any beauty school: come ready to learn, make new friends, have discipline, and have fun! You get experience by practicing on real people. You learn new things as well as customer service. Also donât be afraid to ask for help. Thatâs what youâre here for: to learn. Donât be afraid to ask a question. Many others might have the same question. Also, just be aware that youâll also have to teach yourself. Every instructor here has a different way of doing things. Do what works for you. Go online and watch videos and tutorials. Also please study! Itâs a lot of information to take in, so please read the book that they give you. Take notes. Pay attention. Participate. Now that thatâs out of the way, I want to give a special thanks to those instructors that made my experience here so wonderful. Thank you Mr. Aron. Even though you donât work here anymore, you were one of my favorites. You were my first instructor. You made learning fun. You inspired me to be the best student I could be. You were always so caring for your students. Thank you Ms. Karina. Thank you for being someone I could always come to when I had a question. Thank you for being a great Friday online instructor. Thank you for keeping me awake in class and participating. You were an amazing Advanced Cosmetologist instructor. Thank you Ms. Maira. Thank you for being someone I could just chit chat and be myself around. Thank your for your demos, I learned more about hairstyling from you. Thank you for always keeping me working. Thank you Ms. Cheyenne. Thank you for all your advice when it comes to hair care. You taught me how to take better care of my curls, as well as how to cut them and how to cut curly hair in general. Thank you for all your tips and tricks for hair. Thank you Ms. Dani. Thank you for telling me your story on how you started off as a cosmetologist and giving me insight on how I could start off. Thank you for your cool experiment you showed us, we all had a blast. Thank you for being your true, silly self. Thank you Mr. Thomas. Thank you for always being the instructor I came to when I needed to grab something from dispense or whenever we needed some music to lift the mood on the salon floor. Thank you Ms. Kass. Thank you for all your demos, thank you for always believing in me. Thank you for pushing me to do better.    Read moreTo anyone questioning the school teachers or your future. I want to direct this review to anyone who has dough in starting a new school or career. To those especially older generation that fears a new school or challenge. I was in that predicament my self. I had the same questions , Can I actually do it? How will I interact in this new collage? To answer all your questions let me tell you about my experience with Milan. I am in my late 30s . I looked at several schools considering I live 30 miles away. The most important thing to me was the License. There are several schools that will give you a certificate( plain paper we can print online). Milan has a License program. But let go back to the Milan the Instructors. I will start with Miss Ashley most adorable person you can meet. Intelligent with a spark of joy always happy to help you or answer your questions. Miss Domonique, Perfection in human form. The most knowledgeable with excellent and new techniques for different procedures. Seeing her do a demo is like watching art being made. Miss Alicia she is always eager to help. She likes to make sure you have everything you need , she loves to guide you and help you with any questions. Her knowledge of the field is priceless. Miss Julie, what can I say about miss Julie She is the perfect combination of all the instructors put in one. She will guide you to achieve your goal. She will push you right when you think you can anymore. She will sit with you and guide you; showing you that you are not alone in this battle . She will make sure you do things correctly and before you know it you will understand why she dose it. The most caring instructor you can find. She will not only take time especially for you she will keep track of your progress to motivate you and so you can see what you are achieving. Once you attend this school not only will you gain knowledge you will gain friends for life. The instructors will leave a imprint of knowledge in your making you confident to achieve your dream. My thanks to all of them. Now lets talk about the Dean Miss Becky the last person you would want to see right lol The only Principal or person of power I was impressed with her greatly . I needed to meet with her ; when I asked her when could we me her replied was â When ever you can I am here to help you succeed y schedule will be open anytime for you.â I never expected those words to come out from her mouth. Not many people shock me however she did just that . Miss becky is Americas young Grandmother. Full of love. Well back to me of course I am licensed now I passed the test with a excellent score. I owe it all to my instructors that focused on the students so much. One more THNK YOU ALL for helping me believe in...
Read moreThe main thing that makes me not want to come back is that I feel like the instructor and students convinced me to believe my highlights looked good lol other than another instructor who seemed to avoid making eye contact with me once i was done haha. I couldn't tell much in the salon lights and my oiled glasses. Natural light and family tell the truth. My highlights needed a tone they didn't receive, suuuper badly and my 3.5 inch ash blonde roots didn't look good with my 4.5inch honey blonde grow out combined with the new highlights with lines of demarcation and the extra extra processed money piece that was too broad - it looked a hot mess. I left with 3 colors, my roots which were dark cool blonde, the new highlights which were a yellowy-white highlighter, and my length which was honey blonde. They did what I asked so that was nice but I'd not imagine they sell it up if it looks bad, because it did. I have to remember it's not just a school but a business teaching people to run a business. I don't get hurt easily but my fine hair tangles and breaks easily without special attention. For some reason the student continued to comb my wet hair from top to bottom, I've never had a stylist or student comb my hair that way and I did mention I need to comb from bottom up or it knots as she stretched and caused tangles but she didn't seem to understand that I was providing a notice because she continued to comb from the top, tangle and pull my already thin and now overprocessed hair - she only responded by telling me it's because my hair is fine lol. Upon blow dry she also burned my scalp, I can handle stuff but I mentioned this kindly and response was simply - oh its because I held it too close for too long, and then she did it again soon after I believe she apologized but... She was friendly but I believe she was over worked and ready to leave after spending 4 hours on me but still not a good feeling. I know these are risks taken when using school services but hoping this review will help somehow. I think proper hair combing per hair type is pretty basic and most schools should have an easy oversight of their students for this, this was my biggest concern as my hair was stretched and snapped and plucked out a lot. I have no grudge or anything bad to say about the student or instructor as individuals - they're learning. I just didn't feel good about my experience and outcome and will no longer use the school...
