Needed surgery for an umbilical hernia and met with Dr Garner at Banner Baywood in Mesa AZ. Spoke with him about the procedure with was robot assisted hernia surgery and he explained the procedure, we talked about the mesh that would be inserted and the pros and cons involved, scheduled and the surgery about 2 weeks out. Staff gave me instructions about what to eat, when to stop any supplements I was taking and showed up for out patient surgery on January 3rd 2024. Surgery went well, and and they discovered 2 smaller additional hernias and repaired those as well as the original one and I woke up in the recovery room a little groggy and in a bit of pain. That pain was a 10 of 10 on the pain scale and had one pain pill as the hospital and was sent home. First night a little rough pain-wise but rapidly improved and walked as I was instructed to do and which research verified and took only Tylenol for pain and was better day by day. Now it is two weeks later and the follow-up visit with Dr. Garner went well and now still am not allowed to lift over 20 lbs for the next 4 weeks but feeling good with slight pain here and there and functioning normally other than the lifting restriction. Overall a very good experience and walking day one I believed helped in the recovery process. Dr. Garner was very informative, very confident in the procedure technology and I would recommend him and...
Read moreDr. Garner is a good doctor, but one of his practices was completely less than good. I'm on a pain management contract, which means doctors are not allowed to write me any prescriptions for pain meds except for my pain doctor. They ARE allowed to prescribe pain meds while in the hospital (e.g. after surgery, in the ER, etc.). I saw Dr. Garner and he immediately ordered surgery to remove a mass on my chest. The next day was the surgery. Before surgery, my anesthesiologist said I would have pain meds after surgery. When I woke up from surgery, the surgery site was throbbing and stinging. I told the nurse this and all she said I could have was Tylenol. So, I was sent home from surgery in pain without relief. Because of the fast turn around for the surgery, I wasn't able to get any post-op meds from my pain doctor until the next day. It was sheer torture the rest of the day and night after my surgery. I'm am NOT a med seeker and follow the directions of my doctors to a 'T'. I, even, just took myself off of one of my stronger pain meds 3 months ago. I did NOT deserve to be...
Read moreI'm seeing bad reviews and I can most definitely say that I have had the opposite experience. The staff has been highly competent and friendly. I sort of fell through the cracks a little, but part of that was my fault and it was the holidays, so I'm overlooking that issue because, like I said, partly my fault. The issues with the receptionist is non-existent for me. I've always been treated well. My in person appointment had been a double booking so I expected some wait time, but got all my questions and concerns addressed at that appointment. I've also done video appointments and never had a problem. I whole-heartedly recommend this practice. Always remember, YOU are your best health advocate...
