Course was in very good shape, greens were tricky, hole design required thoughtful shot making and the canyon course was really one of the most fun rounds I’ve played in a long time.
They lose all of their stars because it was 101 degrees today and they closed the snack shack and the beverage cart at 3pm and went home. I didn’t need beer. I didn’t need candy. I needed water. It was 101 degrees. The sun doesn’t go down today until after 8. I can’t think of a worse way to treat your customers than to leave them with no way to hydrate in ONE HUNDRED AND ONE DEGREE HEAT. If I would have known, I would have brought gallons of ice cold water for myself. But I didn’t know. Because every golf course I’ve ever been to respected their customers enough to want them to be alive by the end of their round. With Oasis Golf whatever, your life seems to be lower priority than then being home for dinner.
Did I die? No.
Did I almost die? Maybe. It’s hard to say.
I do know that I tripled 15 and 16 after playing the best 14 holes of my life.
Do I blame the lack of hydration?
Maybe.
Yes.
If I wanted to feel like I had been set on fire and had no way to extinguish the agonizing flames I would become a witch. But I didn’t want that. I wanted to play golf. And I wanted a Gatorade. Or a Powerade. I would have accepted a Kirkland signature brand hydration beverage.
You have a responsibility, Oasis Golf Thing. To your customers. Provide a way for them to stay alive until the end of their 18 hole round.
As it stands, you couldn’t pay me to play here again in the summer, or in the afternoon. And frankly although I know I’d be fine if I played earlier in the day, why shouldn’t I be fine later in the day too? Why is it like hiking the narrows under cloudy skies?
If I wanted to roll the dice with my life, I would have stayed overnight at the virgin river hotel and casino.
To the person who made the decision that 3pm was the appropriate time to close concessions of all kinds: I presume you are the same person who said there would be water available after the 15th hole. You were wrong about that, and you were wrong about 3pm. You have chosen to stop selling hydrating beverages for the final 5 hours of the day in heat that to some, is legitimately dangerous. I assume this is a business decision. You have chosen to put some profit equation above the wellbeing and comfort of your patrons. And for that, you’re not a good person. There is nobody who expects to play five hours of golf in mesquite nevada (they named barbecue after it because it’s so bleeding hot here!) without AMPLE HYDRATION being readily available. If you’re not prepared to make that happen, you probably shouldn’t run a golf course. I and the 11 people I brought with me will be taking our talents elsewhere next year and the dozens of years to follow, not because the canyon course at oasis golf place was a bad golf course, but because you and your awful awful decision made us miserable for the final two hours of our round.
If I wanted to be miserable while I golfed I would go...
Read moreJust finished a week and a bit long golf trip, 36 a day, total of 18 rounds. 2nd year in a row to Mesquite because of just how great, and close, all the courses are to each other.
I am a little biased towards these courses as I just made my first ever hole in one on the 17th at canyons(cannot stop myself from telling everyone and anyone….even random people reading google reviews)
First…Canyons course. This is my favourite. Holes are tough, they demand good shots to be on in regulation…but once you get there, the greens are fair. They’re not flat, but the not extreme as most in the area are. This course has a good mix of long and short holes. There are drop shots and fun geography. All the holes are different. If you’re looking for a course to throw down a low round, this is the one.
Palmer. Good course too. Some very demanding holes. I find it a little more gimmicky than canyons, but absolutely worth playing.
The reason I gave it only four stars. The marshals. You pay a lot of money to play these courses, and as we are always re-rounding and late in the season, we are usually pushing the envelope on daylight…but we planned our tee times accordingly. Both days we played these courses the Marshalls told us we were going to have to quit with only a couple holes to play because they wanted to clean the carts and get out of there. Both times we ignored them as for whatever reason, they start their tour on 18 and work back, meanwhile guys are still teeing off on 10. Both days we finished in the light. Both days we were nowhere near the last groups off the course. The second day I got my hole in one on 17 (see, I did it again) after being told we’d have to leave. Then, while we were putting on 18…in daylight…he came back around and growled at us to hurry up. It was a little bit of bulls**t that we just...
Read moreWe just left the Oasis restaurant and I can honestly say the service is the poorest I have ever experienced. We sat outside for over 15 minutes after the waitress cleared the table from another party. We waited and waited and waited. I went into the bar area where I spoke with an elderly waitress and explained that we had a tee off time at 3:30 p.m. and we were sitting on the patio patiently waiting for someone for some lunch and a drink. Her response was NOT MY PROBLEM. Ok I asked for a menu which she gave me, and as I was leaving I asked a younger women who may have been a supervisor if we could have some service outside to which she responded someone would be out shortly. We then sat there for another 5 minutes when we noticed the elderly waitress taking an order from new occupants. I have been in the service industry for over 24 years and either the restaurants wants to train more employees to service paying clients or train the waitress how to prioritize paying clients. I am sure she was pleased that she served other people other than someone waiting for her. Unfortunately we were seriously thinking of joining this club as we are snowbirds but if this is the normal service we would receive in the clubhouse we surely will re-think our options. Luckily we live on the back of the 4th hole of the Canyons so came home and made lunch and had a drink. On another note the restaurant was not busy so I can only imagine if it was busy it may have been dark by the time we got service. Suggestion hire more people or employ people who know how to serve and look after clientele. Tracy and...
