It's just a average casino. We tour casinos throughout the USA and stay a night or two in our RV while we explore the casino and surrounding area. The Eureka Casino has a very large parking lot and the hotel is Northeast to the main casino. Odd to see people walking from the casino through the parking lot and up to the hotel/spa. We easily fit our RV in the far North lot. It is a somewhat clean lot and was very quiet in the evening. Upon entry to the casino you don't get hit with that smoke smell like others in the area. Seemed somewhat clean! Once inside there are the usual slot machines all lit up. However, the place was somewhat quiet for a Saturday afternoon. It seemed very subdued with very little action. We proceeded to security and registered to stay for the evening. The security personnel was very friendly and super helpful. We then proceeded to the player's club and met another very nice employee. She provided a card and told us about the $5 intro amount to play with. That's all? No dining credits, just "stuff" you can exchange once you earn points. No thanks... From here we went to play a few machines only to lose the $5 and then some! Oh well. The price we pay to stay we figure. We then went to inquire about the buffet. It was closed. No Saturday evening buffet? The café was the only place open except for the Cinnabon. The prices were the standard $12 to $15 a plate for items on the menu. We passed. Our next stop was the bar area. Here you can sit with the smokers and get a drink (on the house if you are gambling). We decided to go into the sports lounge area to avoid the smoke and watch a game or two while we had a Sierra Nevada on tap and a coke. This only set me back $18.45 (with taxes) for the two drinks. $5.00 for a cup of coke? We finished up our drinks and decided to leave the property to explore the casino across the street. What a difference! Way more people and the energy was on a much higher level. True, it was allot more smoky but a totally different vibe. There we were able to have the Prime Rib dinner for $8.99 and the Rib special for $7.99. Now we are talking! "Like Vegas used to be" is the slogan, but not for the Eureka. Maybe they should consider offering something to us "cheap" travelers. We would surely be back, but based on this experience, we will just keep driving...
Read moreThe State sad sad of Buffets in Nevada.
I get freaked out by people who lick their fingers in the buffet line. What if they have the Flu, or Hepatitis, Or poop-fingers from wiping their bums, or baby's bum, or they are caregivers... you get my drift. I JUST CAN'T EAT AT BUFFETS ANYMORE! Back nearly 70 years ago when I was a kid they had cafeteria style buffets, the servers behind the food who placed it on your plate, was good portion control, and you could always come back for more. The public was kep a sanitary distance from food items, and never allowed to touch the serving utensils, there was no need for "sneeze guards", which I've seen wiped down, and then the same cloth used to wipe down the buffet counter tops. And as prices soar cost cutting measures are ridiculous, as ketchup comes in little cups of future microplastic, which have to be filled, and brought back to the table by the server when requested. In this Trump era with cheap labor being sent home, who is going to take the time and expense to fill these cups, with tight fitting lids... is this really cost effective? Also I ask for one, I get three, I try to use two, and the third one goes in the trash... or at least I hope it does. One more complaint--- oh yes, I have many, many more. Plz, plz stop being so thrid world as to have an army of little women with brooms to sweep the floor (or grotesque carpeting), all they are doing is areosolizing ever bacteria and virus carried in on people's shoes, and it settles back on the uncovered food, you literally taste the dust.... can you say containation! And plz stop with the external speaker conversations on your phone; and stop giving babies spoons to tap and smash on table tops. Perhaps the worst is ingnored toddlers with screens watching Baby Shark. I dared to ask plz turn it down and the parents went off I me, threats of violence towards me, as they thought (ironically), I was harming their neglected child, never realizing I fault them, not the child. A child, who due to the parents blind ignorance has no real chance of being civilly socialized. NO MORE BUFFETS FOR ME,...
Read moreWe went for a drive Labor day and ended up in Mesquite. We decided to have dinner and picked the Eureka casino buffet because it's supposed to be the upscale one of the three in casinos Mesquite. The buffet was just GROSS, poorly arranged, and just not worth the money.
Don't get me wrong it was a physically clean place, but the flavor of the food just was not there. For example: the condiments and veggies for the burgers and hot dogs section was in FRONT of the buns. So you had to get your buns and then go backwards on the buffet to get condiments, lettuce, tomato, and onion. The root beer BBQ sauce was down by the brisket and prime rib and not by the somehow tough ribs and pulled pork. They also had foot long buns and then cut the hot dogs all in halfish. Which turned out ok because somehow the brown hot dogs tasted nasty.
Even the corn dogs were gross tasting. I don't know how you can make cron dogs taste bad, but they managed it. The chocolate moose tasted like it was made last week. The inside of the mini eclairs was still frozen. It goes on and on, but basically every piece of food I tried to eat was gross, EXCEPT the broccoli salad, and the lava cake those were actually good.
GAMING. There are penny slot machines all over the place, but when you get up to machine they have it set so the minimum bet is 50 cents. So it doesn't really matter that they are penny machines. Disappointing to say the least.
Cocktail waitresses were all over the place and it felt like a pretty average amount of time for them to come back with drinks. But it did seem like they made the rounds a lot more often.
Parking Plenty of spaces, but very few handicapped spots.
I can't speak to anything else at this place since we didn't use it.
All in all I don't know if I would go back. If we end up in Mesquite again I might try their cafe, but I'm more likely to try Casa...
