As a returning customer, I walked into Open Hair hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, my second visit confirmed what I hoped wasn't true the first time: this salon prioritizes convenience and speed over customer experience and professionalism.
Let me walk you through what happened.
I booked an appointment online with a specific stylistâsomeone I trusted to work with my hair. But just as the service was wrapping up, the salon was getting ready to close. Thatâs when the owner stepped inâwithout askingâand decided to help âspeed things upâ by blow-drying one side of my hair. The result? One side of my hair had volume, the other was completely flat. I'm sorry but I wouldn't call that high standards. Blow-drying is not just drying hair; it's part of the styling process. Different stylists have different techniques and touches. Customers choose a specific stylist for a reason. That choice should be respected.
This wasn't an isolated issue. On my first visit, they burned my face with a white liquid used to remove hair dye stains from the skin. Not only was the burn painful, but I walked out with a visible ring around my face. They state that there's never been a report when the hairstylists purfusly apologized. Even a customer gave me an ointment to help with the burning feeling on my skin. This is proof that they are not honest. Despite this, I decided to give them a second chanceâbecause sometimes, one bad experience is just that: one bad experience. But unfortunately, this time proved worse.
Even though I made my appointment with one stylist, once the color was applied, someone else was told to finish my hair. It seems the owner often steps in and assigns whoever he wants to work on you, regardless of who you booked with. That takes away a customer's right to consistency, comfort, and trust in the professional they selected.
Another issue: during both visits, I noticed the stylists and the owner encouraging (almost pressuring) clients to leave positive reviews. Don't be fooled by the positive reviews. While reviews are important for any business, the focus should always be on making the experience positive. Happy customers leave happy reviewsânaturally.
After my honest review, someone who appears to be the owner's wife (who, from what I understand, doesn't even work in the salon) responded defensively. To clarify: this is not a personal attack. This is constructive feedback from a paying customer who gave the business not just one, but two chances.
To future customers: be aware that you may not receive the personalized experience you expect. If you book with one stylist, you might get passed around. If you value consistency, relaxation, and a stress-free experience, this may not be the place for you.
My hope is that this salonâand others readingâtake this as a reminder: âď¸ Respect your client's preferences âď¸ Avoid rushing for the sake of closing time âď¸ Prioritize quality over quantity âď¸ Donât substitute stylists without asking
I wonât be returning. Not because I want to tear a business downâbut because I value my time, comfort, and appearance. And I believe every paying customer deserves the same.

Read moreIâm curious as to how this salon has such a high star rating when my experience was nothing but. I walked in maybe 10 minutes before my appointment and happily waited until it was my turn to be seen. A tall bald man then approached me and had me sit in the salon chair to begin discussing what I wanted. Initially I went in for extensions but he convinced me my hair was too healthy for extensions. ?? Instead he convinced me to do a Ybera treatment for $250, a hair cut and blow dry for a total of $300.
I agreed. He then passes me off to woman who is going to wash my hair. This is where it gets interesting. I swear yall all she did was rinse it with water. Wraps my hair up in a towel and sits me back down on the chair. No one ever came back out. IâM NOT JOKING. I could hear the employees in the back/side room speaking, but after being ignored for over half an hour I decided to leave, hair dripping and all.
No call back to question why I left. Nothing. Also Iâm noticing how you respond to clientsâ google reviews justifying whatever the client is coming on here to share. Careful how you respond to mine because I left out something that made me uncomfortable but will absolutely share it if your response is anything short of an apology.
In all honesty Iâm glad they did that because I had agreed to something I didnât even want, I just wanted my hair done. Iâll never forget what he told me all because he didnât have the length of extensions I wanted âextensions are really for women who have diseases that make them lose hair and NEED them.â
Anyway thanks for making me waste so much time and good luck running your tiny little joke...
