Stop & Shop — Local services in Middletown Township

I’m suspicious these reviews are fake or paid for. The Middletown stop n shop is terrible. It’s filthy, the produce is rotting on the shelves and the meat sits around WAY too long. The shopping carts haven’t been replaced in almost 20 years and they are broken, rusty and sharp; unsafe for children to sit in the front and a hazard for anyone pushing them to potentially get cut. My mother got hurt on one of these carts so please be careful. The fruits and vegetables are NOT fresh; in fact, they are often visibly spoiled with rotten spots, soft apples, puffed up bags of old salads and veggies that are soupy inside, mushy grapes that leak rotten juice when you pick up the bags, moldy oranges and more— those are just a few common examples you can expect to find on an average day in the produce department. The red meat often has a brownish look to it and I’ve even gotten expired meat there on more than one occasion through their delivery service— which regularly disappoints. I can’t believe the audacity and the boldness of putting obviously spoiled and often rotten/moldy food inside the bags to be delivered to peoples homes to be eaten, which is clearly not fit for human consumption. My family no longer orders through Stop & Shop delivery service because it’s not worth it with the amount of food that needs to be thrown out upon arrival, as it’s already spoiled when received. The store is often like a ghost town at night with maybe one register open if you’re lucky, but most of the time they just have a few self checkout lanes open instead. This stores gone so far down hill that it’s no longer worth it to shop here. Take your business to shop rite instead; they are clean, fresh food and a better selection with good...

Car blew a coolant line.. was able to just make it into Stop&Shop’s parking lot seconds before closing. Ran in to pick up as much water as I could carry. The two women up front were super nice, even being so close to closing…. I rushed out and must have forgotten my wallet. It was only until I got home that I realized it was gone. Almost 1am now…. I decided to call the store figured I would leave a message. Someone picks up… I explain the story and he puts me on hold and literally goes over every stop I mentioned I was at…5 minutes later “ I have it!” I head back to the store and are greeted at the door by Serge….. he hands me my wallet. Not a single cent missing. And ontop of that, won’t accept anything. Although my evening was ruined. My car is probably going to need a motor since I tried to drive home…. The fact that he really just broke the cycle. It’s just amazing! I can’t say thank you enough. I hope you guys appreciate what you have there. I would love to have an employee like that on our team....

For 40 minutes last night customer service is closed an one lane open for large checkout orders. How is this anyway to run a store? Especially while 5 employees all in floral are just standing around talking with each other and not working? It's just a personal hangout I guess. Plus the two employees right outside the front door for over 30 min smoking right in front of the doors smoking with friends who didn't work there. Great way to run the store ... sadly, you need people who want to work and not constantly feel as if they are above it. Better night management is definitely needed here and try and cut down on the friend visits to employees at night, its a bad look. Been here 15 times since I moved always from 730-9pm and its just a bad experience. Shoprite...
