I would say that the recent customer service that I received on 8/8/15, approximately 4:00pm, at this Dick's location cost the store a potential $400 sale. I wanted to check out a Nike Vapor Pro driver, & when I asked if I could simply hold one to get a feel for the weight (they were ziptied to the display), the employee suggested that I go over to the range & try the club out. When I did so, he handed me a Nike Vapor Flex driver, which is different from the club I expressed interest in, & then proceeded to offend my friend & myself. He first asked if my friend (6'1", 300lbs.) was my (5'9", 170lbs.) bodyguard, & then while I took a couple displeased swings with a club I had no interest in purchasing, told my friend that it was ok if he didn't golf much because "he couldn't be much worse than" me. I saw this same employee giving in-depth assistance to a middle-aged man decked out in golf gear (polo shirt, belt, etc.), but as I, a 23-year-old, chose to come to their store in a tank top & my long hair flowing, I feel as though I didn't receive the same brand of respect & professionalism. It seems to me as though I was blatently discrimintaed against based on my age & appearance, & I don't think that is fair to any customer of Dick's...
Read moreAs soon as We walked in the greeter didn’t greet us yet he greeting the people in front of us and the people behind us. We went straight to the treadmill section. As soon as I knew which one I was interested in My husband went to ask the guy in the front for help. I asked him if he would let me know if the store had either of the two treadmills I was interested in purchasing he told us to get in line and ask the cashier. We get in line when it was our turn the lady calls the same guy to help us. He asked what he can do? I had to tell him again. He looked like he wasn’t there to help. He looked at the treadmills and said he would come back. So after waiting a little longer we left. I called the store in Turlock the nice lady on the phone confirmed right away the store had the treadmill, she told me I could order online So It wouldn’t sell. Since I would be picking up the next day. I will now be doing my shopping at the...
Read moreI came in hoping to return or exchange a pair of running shoes I had recently purchased. I’d only worn them once, but they were extremely uncomfortable and hurt my feet. While I completely understand that return policies often exclude lightly used items—having worked in retail myself—I was disappointed by how the situation was handled.
What made the experience worse was the interaction I had with a red-haired associate, who was unnecessarily rude and condescending. Rather than offering alternative solutions or simply explaining the policy with professionalism, she spoke to me in a dismissive tone, as if I didn’t understand basic store procedures.
Customer service is about more than just enforcing policy—it’s about how you communicate with people. I left feeling frustrated not by the policy itself, but by the lack of empathy and basic respect shown during...
