I have shopped at Gabe's for nearly 30 years and would have to say that half my wardrobe comes from them. The folks who complain simply don't understand how "off price" stores work. They buy bulk lots of items that other vendors and manufacturers have as surplus, end-of-season or catalog returns and then sell them at amazingly affordable prices. if you are one of those people who is not willing to search for a surprising deal and get upset because a store doesn't have everything in your size or go shopping because you want some specific item, this is NOT the place for you.
But for those of us who enjoy the "hunt" and can keep an open mind about what we might find on any given shopping trip, Gabe's is a gold mine. I have gotten everything from a Pottery Barn wooden desk for $65 (it was $899 from PB), to a Worth cashmere and silk tailored blazer for $19.99 (original tag on it was $799) to a $220 Columbia fur trimmed down winter parka for $49.99 at "my" Gabe's in Monroeville. I try to stop in at least once every couple of weeks to check out what they have new in stock. When my brother started his contracting business I was able to find an entire wardrobe of work clothes for him there for a third of what he would have had to pay new mostly from Riggs and Carharrt brand. They also have great baby stuff and I always go there for cute items when there is a baby shower coming up. I also buy bulk packages of socks and underwear to donate to homeless shelters and other helping organizations. Good selection of room-sized and area rugs as well as basic bedding. And always tons of phone chargers and other electronic necessities, FAR cheaper than the rip off phone stores.
My friends are always amazed when they compliment me on my outfits and I can tell them that everything, from shoes to jewelry, came from Gabe's and often the entire outfit cost under $50! Some of the brands I regularly find at Gabe's are Clarks, Born, OTBT, Merrell and Jambu shoes, quality clothing from Worth, Ann Taylor, Woolrich, Talbots, Calvin Klein, Raffaela, Chico's and Seven jeans (my favorite fit.) I even got a gorgeous floor length lace formal gown, originally from Lord & Taylor with a $500 tag, that fits like it was custom made for me, for $24.99.
Gabe's is great, and I have introduced relatives and friends to it. When they visit from out of town, an expedition to Gabe's always has to be on the...
Read moreI live in the state of Pennsylvania or the Commonwealth I should say and I go to the Gabriel's in Wilkins township. It is not the experience that I was used to shopping at Gabriel Brothers when my children were little. Lately I have been going in there semi-regularly because I have my grandchildren and I am not at all please. They will have two prices on an item, one being from let's say Macy's and the other is the Gabriel they both have prices on them. Now what I'm about to tell you has been tested twice and I put a stop to it on the third time. I sent my wife in who is white and I am not white to get some of these book bags with the folder and water bottle and it had about six different attachments to it. They had the two price tags I sent my wife into buy one and they charged her 1399 I went and bought the exact same one pink and they charge me 16.99 USD. My wife went back in after me and purchased another one and they charged her $13.99 or 12.99 I believe they were . So I took mine back in and told them that it has two prices and in the state of Pennsylvania or the Commonwealth thereof if something has two prices the store must sell it at the lowest price. The people at the counter gave me such trouble, a first stated that the Macy's tag isn't their tag and I told them that 99% of this stuff in this store has another brand label as Gabriel is not a manufacturer of any of this stuff. They continue to give me a hard time and I insisted that they call the manager, the manager it was quite professional and immediately give it to him for the lower price but they made no effort to go and correct the other ones. Now I've strongly am inclined to know that they have two prices for two different demographics. I am a rewards...
Read moreThe only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because their prices are good but the store is very disorganized and the one cashier I had who ended up saying she was a manager was rude and didn’t know the holiday return policy , I had shopped in the store for over an hour and I stood in line for close to twenty minutes and when I asked if I could return these items after Christmas if someone didn’t like what I purchased she informed me no I then asked if a manager could write something on my receipt and she then said she was the manager and no she wouldn’t and this was November 19th so I left all my items there and left. Returning a couple days later to purchase something that I knew I wouldn’t need to return I asked another cashier about when does the holiday return policy start she said it already had on November 5th and returns could be made up until end of January and she wasn’t even a manager and knew the policy. Everyone should know the policy and for the first cashier to be a manager and not know and did not want to help me out really has turned me off from...
