As an avid horror fan and a regular convention-goer, my recent visit to the Living Dead Museum and Living Dead Weekend left me utterly dissatisfied and regretful. This was my second time visiting, as I went to LDW 2022, and I can tell you most assuredly I won't be back.

BAIT AND SWITCH: The museum advertised appearances by talented individuals, but more often than not, the talent was aloof or decided not to show up at all for the convention events like movie screenings. It was frustrating to find out that some of the main attractions were absent, leaving attendees feeling cheated and shortchanged. If you're promising celebrity guests and exclusive experiences, you should deliver on those promises.

As if that wasn't enough, the moderation on the Living Dead Weekend Facebook group is notorious for being excessively heavy-handed. Constructive criticism or even mentioning legitimate concerns, such as safety issues at the nearby Red Rood Inn, is met with swift and unwarranted bans. The group administrators seem more interested in silencing any negative feedback rather than addressing the issues at hand. This heavy-handed approach creates an unwelcoming atmosphere and stifles any chance for open dialogue or improvement.

On top of everything, it's disheartening to learn that the convention's organizers seem to turn a blind eye to the surrounding area's problems. While we all understand the appeal of hosting a horror-themed event, ignoring the reality that the Red Rood Inn is associated with criminal activity and even murder is downright irresponsible. Brushing off legitimate safety concerns for the sake of maintaining an illusion of a spooky backdrop is not only distasteful but also raises serious ethical questions.

All in all, my experience at the Living Dead Museum was far from enjoyable. The exorbitant prices, lack of reliable talent appearances, and heavy-handed moderation on their Facebook group make it an establishment I would discourage others from visiting. I hope that in the future, the museum's management takes these criticisms to heart and makes significant changes to provide a better experience for their attendees. Until then, I'll be looking for other conventions and events that actually value their patrons' opinions and deliver on...

We were SO ecstatic to visit this famous mall and the museum on our way from Ohio back to NJ. Unfortunately, all that excitement was ruined by a couple staff members who were rude, weird, and unpleasant. The management of this store should really re-evaluate the presence these employees in the store. When we approached the store and started taking pictures of the store front female employee started yelling at us do not photograph her. We even didn't see her in the beginning. The started yelling at us that we couldn't come in because the store was closed. We said OK and we will just look from outside. She kept yelling at us that they are closed and we cannot look at anything. The situation was so bizarre. Guys pay attention to their schedule because they open only Friday, Saturday, and Sunday what is strange. Also, online store doesn't offer as much good stuff as it presented in the museum store. Cannot say anything about museum itself because those two nasty store employees did...

I really loved the museum when it was in Evans City, not so wild about the recent move to the mall. I have to say I'm really disappointed as I'm from Pittsburgh and like to support local. A friend of mine who lives in Florida would love a Pgh Zombie shirt, so I ordered one off their online store as I wasn't able to get to Monroeville recently and I figured why not have it just directly shipped out to them. I ordered and paid, waited over a week for any update. I emailed, Facebook messaged, and even called and left a voicemail requesting at least a status of my order. I received nothing in return, no phone call or message and no merch shipment. I had to file a claim with PayPal to get my money back.

Pretty unprofessional. Glad I didn't buy a ticket for the Living Dead weekend, looks like if you have a problem they just don't care. Sad really. I will no longer support this. Just beware if you are buying online or honestly anything from them, if you have an issue you...

Love this place SO MUCH! What a great little gem in a sadly dying mall. I really hope that the preservation efforts I've heard about regarding the mall come to fruition. Anyway, The Living Dead Museum is a must see attraction for any zombie movie fan. Some great artifacts from all of Romero's movies, and even some from Evil Dead. I went with my family and I got lost in wonder with all of these great little exhibits. There are a few extra zombie nods too, like Fulci's zombie, some Creeps how goodies and even a Micheal Jackson mannequin in the Thriller gear. The highlight for me, though, was the preserved elevator that (I believe) was in the old Pennies store where Flyboy meets his demise in Dawn... they have Flyboy standing in it, and it makes for a great photo op. Seriously, like zombies? Go check this museum out after getting your nerd on over the most famous mall in horror film history. It'll be the icing on your cake... "where's my cake!?"

The Living Dead Museum at Monroeville Mall is an absolute treasure for anyone who loves film history, especially horror. Just outside of Pittsburgh, this unique spot celebrates the legacy of Dawn of the Dead, which was famously filmed right here in the mall, with authentic props and behind-the-scenes history. But it doesn’t stop there—the museum also highlights other Pittsburgh classics like Creepshow, The Crazies, and even the series Mindhunter. The exhibits go beyond memorabilia, offering a full timeline of zombie cinema with life-size figures, posters, and original materials that bring the genre to life. Best of all, the displays evolve and change over time, so every visit feels fresh and new. I make a point to stop by every year, and it never disappoints—an absolute must-see for movie lovers and horror fans alike.
