Love a good Thai place, tonight this wasn’t one of them. The food was ok, I only tried one dish, but the negative was the service and management.
We ordered a dish and asked for no peanuts. The server repeated to us, “no nuts.” When the dish came out, there was a small mound of peanuts sitting against the dish. So either the server didn’t write it down or the chef didn’t read the slip. The first question was, are you allergic? She asked if she could scrape them off. We said no, even the presence of peanuts will be an unpleasant evening for the person eating the meal. She asked if we wanted it remade, we said yes.
She took the plate back and we could hear her talking to a person in the kitchen and they said to scrape it off. The place is small, kitchen conversation is heard well. The plate came back out two minutes later and of course, a smear mark and you can smell peanuts.
After seeing that we were not eating the dish, the server came back over, we asked if it was the same meal, she said something, and we asked to have it removed. She then took the plate and we were not charged for that part of the meal.
So here we are leaving the Green Mango, one diner hungry, because the restaurant refused to remake a meal they messed up.
Lesson learned: you can triple check your order but you might not get what...
Read moreTwo things to know upfront before you visit: when I went, they were doing takeout only, and they were cash-preferred. They don't have much space (maybe 6 tables in the entire place), and it is not the kind of place you'd go if you're looking for atmosphere (check out Nicki's Thai if that is what you want). Food was prepared quickly, with only a 4-7 minute wait. Prices here were more like what I am used to (unlike the other area Thai restaurants I've visited), but it shows in the quality. The phad thai was not up to snuff, lacking the distinctive balance of sweet, sour, and savory flavors. It was not offensive, just more bland than anything. To our cashier's credit, he tried to steer us away from the phad thai when asked for recommendations, encouraging us to try the drunken noodles if we were down for something spicy. That said, in my opinion, any Thai restaurant worth its salt needs to have a solid phad thai. Would I consider trying The Green Mango again? Maybe once, just to make sure I didn't just get a mediocre dish. Would I argue there is significantly better Thai food to be found in the...
Read moreLet me preface this by focusing on the positives: We ordered take out on a Saturday afternoon around noon. The person was really friendly, our order was correct, it was easy pickup, and they truly took COVID precautions seriously. But...The food was the worst thai food I've ever had in my life. It tasted like nothing. We ordered the pad thai, drunken noodle, beef masaaman, and a couple other things I can't remember because it was so mediocre. We opened the beef massaman and threw it away, the beef was bright pink and we were scared to eat it. The other food tasted like nothing. We were never asked about the spice level so I assume that 0 spice means absolutely nothing including salt? I don't know. We spent about $90 on a lot of food, tried it, and then pitched it, that's how bad it was. I really had high hopes since the other chains were good but we won't go back here, especially due to the hot pink beef. That's a deal breaker for us if someone can't even cook food safely. Manager, Please have a conversation about food safety...
