I happened to drive by Becky's and, coincidentally, I was in search for a specific Jamaican spice, so I gave them a call to inquire about it. The gentleman I spoke with was courteous, but unfortunately, they only offered large containers of the spice I needed. I was hoping for just a pinch or a tablespoon shoot, even a small 2oz bag, so this was a bit disappointing. I also noticed that while they do offer prepared food, the prices seemed quite high for items that were frozen. On a positive note, I did find that they carry red palm oil, which I’ve been searching for to make a South American dish. This might be the only item I would consider purchasing from here. Overall, I recommend checking out Becky's if you're interested in specialty spices—they have a wide variety of powders available!

I have been looking for good fufu near me for awhile. I decided to come here due to seeing good reviews. When we walked in it gave me hope because it was very cultured based. When we got our food he said to come back if it was not good. THE FOOD WAS DISGUSTING.The fufu was so gross. The soup was sour and the meat was absolutely nasty. We tried calling he did not answer we had to call back multiple times, he finally answered and we asked if we can get a refund or store credit he hung up on our faces. We decided to come back and he locked the door during store hours. If I could give it a zero I would.(this is my first bad review I ever left)

My husband and I needed items for dinner so we decided to try Becy because we've heard about it through a friend. We arrived before opening and the clerk was already inside and noticed us out front so he opened the store early. The clerk was very friendly, respectful and assisted us with all of our findings. The store is clean, fresh, and has a large variety of items you will need for all traditional African dishes. The prices vary and something may seem expensive depending on the quantity. The Best part is he's OPEN on Sundays. We are very thankful for a store like this that meets cultural needs. THANK YOU MR.SUNDAY!

Upon entering Becy African Store located in the heart of Montclair, California, one is immediately enveloped in an aura of warmth and cultural vibrancy that is both inviting and enriching. This store stands as a testament to the beauty and diversity of African culture, offering an array of products that connect customers to the continent's rich traditions and heritage.

The compassionate and understanding service provided by the store's owner and staff is noteworthy. They greet each customer with a sweet rationality, understanding, and a calm demeanor that makes shopping here not just a transaction, but a genuinely pleasant experience. Their compassionate approach to customer service is a beacon of calmness that encourages customers to return, fostering a community of regulars who appreciate the store's unique offerings and the heartfelt service.

While the store prides itself on offering a range of products imported directly from Africa, it is understandable that some items may be priced higher than what one might expect. This pricing reflects the costs associated with importing goods from afar, often sourced from friends and family back in Africa who provide these items at a lower cost. Despite the premium, it's clear that the store strives to keep prices as reasonable as possible, balancing the need for sustainability with the desire to make their offerings accessible to a wider audience.

It's also worth noting that while some products may resemble items found in regular stores, their value at Becy African Store goes beyond their price tag. Each item carries a story, a piece of African culture that cannot be quantified merely in monetary terms. However, it is observed that some items lack price tags, adding a layer of mystery to the shopping experience. This could be an area for improvement, as clear pricing helps in making informed purchasing decisions.

Regarding the food offerings mentioned in other reviews, such as soup or fufu, it appears there might be a discrepancy in expectations. During my visits, these culinary delights have eluded me, suggesting that either their availability is limited or perhaps, they are special items that require advance notice or are offered during specific times. Clarity on this aspect would certainly enhance the shopping experience, bridging the gap between expectation and reality.

In conclusion, Becy African Store is more than just a place to shop; it's a portal to exploring the rich tapestry of African culture, supported by a team that genuinely cares for its customers. While the pricing may reflect the challenges of international commerce, the store's atmosphere of understanding and compassion, coupled with its cultural offerings, makes it a worthy destination for those seeking to connect with Africa's vibrant heritage. With a few adjustments, particularly in clarity of offerings and pricing, Becy African Store has the potential to attract even more customers, further solidifying its status as a cherished...

He lost me as a customer….you put a sign on the door saying open meanwhile no one is there to attend to customer, the door was locked….this has happened not once….I didn’t want to drop this review, but I believe reviews are useful for correcting some mistakes especially in a business setting.

Above review was done a year ago after after driving to this store on two occasions about 4pm without meeting the owner in the store, but he displayed the OPEN sign.

Below was your response to my review. You only responded 2 months ago after making my review a year ago.

Please we are sorry, come beck we need you. God bless youšŸ™

Today Feb 02, 2023. So I went into this store today, the moment I entered the store, owner said to me the that he is refusing me service because l made a bad review for him , that he can only allow me to shop in his store only if I take down the review. He was actually mandating me to take the review down. First of all, you are not professional in your business you should know that reviews are meet to correct any flaws in business or anything you sell to public. Secondly you lack customer service expertise, hence, I would suggest you take some educative classes on customer service relations to help you in future and change your mentality on how you handle customers. Seeing me in your store today, would have be an avenue for you to talk with me to edit the review, but you choose to use a awkward manner by telling me to take the review down and that is the only way you can render me service. You bringing that Nigeria mentality to this part of the world...sad. If men were God.

Thirdly, from your attitude today, it shows that you always beg your customer for positive reviews even though you pretend to have a good attitude. Am glad you are not the only African...

I love supporting privately owned businesses of any culture because I understand that A LOT of hard work goes into starting it up and keeping it a float. Mr. Sunday,(the owner), was a wonder host and extremely welcoming and accommodating despite being very tired at the end of the business day. The store itself brought back memories of some of the things my father use to buy for me as a child. That being said I am a believer in being transparent and as honest as I can be, respectfully of course. I had been looking to try African food for a while now and looked forward to experiencing fufu and egusi stew specifically. So when a friend of mine and I ordered our food, (she got the Jollof rice and chicken), we couldn't wait to get at it. However, when I got home and tried the food I was disappointed. The stew was extremely thin and oily, the meat was a little tough, the portion didn't seem as if it was enough for two people and the fufu's texture and taste seemed a bit "off". Again, being that this was my first time I assumed it was me, but my friend who has had this before and was married to a man from Africa who cooked these very things, confirmed my opinion. Maybe it was just wasn't a good day. Again, I would DEFINITELY recommend shopping at this store for any ingredients or cooking items you may need, it's there and Mr. Sunday will surely make you feel at home. Which is why I gave my overall rating three...
