Upon entering Becy African Store located in the heart of Montclair, California, one is immediately enveloped in an aura of warmth and cultural vibrancy that is both inviting and enriching. This store stands as a testament to the beauty and diversity of African culture, offering an array of products that connect customers to the continent's rich traditions and heritage.
The compassionate and understanding service provided by the store's owner and staff is noteworthy. They greet each customer with a sweet rationality, understanding, and a calm demeanor that makes shopping here not just a transaction, but a genuinely pleasant experience. Their compassionate approach to customer service is a beacon of calmness that encourages customers to return, fostering a community of regulars who appreciate the store's unique offerings and the heartfelt service.
While the store prides itself on offering a range of products imported directly from Africa, it is understandable that some items may be priced higher than what one might expect. This pricing reflects the costs associated with importing goods from afar, often sourced from friends and family back in Africa who provide these items at a lower cost. Despite the premium, it's clear that the store strives to keep prices as reasonable as possible, balancing the need for sustainability with the desire to make their offerings accessible to a wider audience.
It's also worth noting that while some products may resemble items found in regular stores, their value at Becy African Store goes beyond their price tag. Each item carries a story, a piece of African culture that cannot be quantified merely in monetary terms. However, it is observed that some items lack price tags, adding a layer of mystery to the shopping experience. This could be an area for improvement, as clear pricing helps in making informed purchasing decisions.
Regarding the food offerings mentioned in other reviews, such as soup or fufu, it appears there might be a discrepancy in expectations. During my visits, these culinary delights have eluded me, suggesting that either their availability is limited or perhaps, they are special items that require advance notice or are offered during specific times. Clarity on this aspect would certainly enhance the shopping experience, bridging the gap between expectation and reality.
In conclusion, Becy African Store is more than just a place to shop; it's a portal to exploring the rich tapestry of African culture, supported by a team that genuinely cares for its customers. While the pricing may reflect the challenges of international commerce, the store's atmosphere of understanding and compassion, coupled with its cultural offerings, makes it a worthy destination for those seeking to connect with Africa's vibrant heritage. With a few adjustments, particularly in clarity of offerings and pricing, Becy African Store has the potential to attract even more customers, further solidifying its status as a cherished...

Above review was done a year ago after after driving to this store on two occasions about 4pm without meeting the owner in the store, but he displayed the OPEN sign.

Today Feb 02, 2023. So I went into this store today, the moment I entered the store, owner said to me the that he is refusing me service because l made a bad review for him , that he can only allow me to shop in his store only if I take down the review. He was actually mandating me to take the review down. First of all, you are not professional in your business you should know that reviews are meet to correct any flaws in business or anything you sell to public. Secondly you lack customer service expertise, hence, I would suggest you take some educative classes on customer service relations to help you in future and change your mentality on how you handle customers. Seeing me in your store today, would have be an avenue for you to talk with me to edit the review, but you choose to use a awkward manner by telling me to take the review down and that is the only way you can render me service. You bringing that Nigeria mentality to this part of the world...sad. If men were God.
Thirdly, from your attitude today, it shows that you always beg your customer for positive reviews even though you pretend to have a good attitude. Am glad you are not the only African...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love supporting privately owned businesses of any culture because I understand that A LOT of hard work goes into starting it up and keeping it a float. Mr. Sunday,(the owner), was a wonder host and extremely welcoming and accommodating despite being very tired at the end of the business day. The store itself brought back memories of some of the things my father use to buy for me as a child. That being said I am a believer in being transparent and as honest as I can be, respectfully of course. I had been looking to try African food for a while now and looked forward to experiencing fufu and egusi stew specifically. So when a friend of mine and I ordered our food, (she got the Jollof rice and chicken), we couldn't wait to get at it. However, when I got home and tried the food I was disappointed. The stew was extremely thin and oily, the meat was a little tough, the portion didn't seem as if it was enough for two people and the fufu's texture and taste seemed a bit "off". Again, being that this was my first time I assumed it was me, but my friend who has had this before and was married to a man from Africa who cooked these very things, confirmed my opinion. Maybe it was just wasn't a good day. Again, I would DEFINITELY recommend shopping at this store for any ingredients or cooking items you may need, it's there and Mr. Sunday will surely make you feel at home. Which is why I gave my overall rating three...
