Furlong's Engraving — Local services in Montgomery

I give this business a 1 star - I purchased a vase stand ( black wood with an engraved plate) for a special retirement gift. Once I got the stand home to look at it, two of the corners (opposite corners) were cracked and the black laminate had fallen off. I called Joe immediately, and was told to bring it back in. Once I brought it in to him, he insulted my intelligence saying that I had dropped it because it was not that way when he installed the engraved plate. Many times I insured him that I had not! I had only taken it from the car seat and brought it into the house. His insistence that I dropped it was his way of saying that I lied. I did not lie. I did not drop the stand (I would have had to drop it twice, because the corners were opposite ones!). Because it was for a gift and this would be looked at by many people, I had no other recourse but to purchase another one at the cost of $50. He goes to the back and conveniently says that he does not have another one, so he grabs a black magic marker and proceeds to cover the flacked off spaces on the base. I cannot believe that this company does not stand by their inferior products. I am a very unhappy customer. I will never go back and I am sorry because I like to support the small business owners but not when they take advantage of their customers. Didn't think to do a review but this was about a year ago. Went in to get a name tag made for my job at a major pharmacy chain as Furlongs had done some for me in the past. Don't know who I spoke to inside, older gentlemen but when I showed him what I needed he basically told me to go do all the work for him, that I had to supply the graphics (the graphic in question was a easily obtained on the internet) myself etc.

Took the same job to a competitor out of Clanton and the clerk there just said "ok no problem" and it turned out exactly as desired.

Have never and will never bring any business back...

Shout out to Joe and Chris for EXCEPTIONAL customer service! After a minor discrepancy Chris did what great businessmen do; ensured customer satisfaction! He went the extra mile and I left there feeling guilty for getting the free remake. Not only did Furlongs make it right. But Chris even gave me a helpful tip to heed in the long run.
