Since the mid 90’s I’ve always stopped by Dee Gee’s when visiting Morehead City because of the really interesting books, coastal decor and unique beach items. I also really enjoyed the flavored candy sticks (4 for $1.00) they use to sell in the glass jars in front of the window. My most recent visit on Saturday 12/26/20 I noticed many changes from not being greeted when entering or even acknowledged the entire time I was browsing throughout the store. The employees were mostly having conversations amongst themselves or on their cell phones while occasionally looking around. Also, I couldn’t believe how EXPENSIVE it is now (a small key chain was $50.00 and a wooden picture frame $60.00) this is crazy. Was not greeted or acknowledged upon arrival, which was fine, but my children and I were perusing the CHILDREN’s section upstairs when we were joined by an employee who followed us closely and made us feel like intruders rather than valued customers. I had a close watch on my children, and they were being respectful and careful with the items on display. When I sent the kids out with my husband she made a disdainful look in their direction and rolled her eyes. Guess she didn’t know I was still in the store. Read moreI use to enjoy spending time with my wife in this store. She's browse the whole store while I shopped for a book. They use to have selections that appealed to me, but this last time not. Plus, the vibe given off by the unfriendly female behind the counter (zero eye contact and silence upon entering and through-out our too long visit) made me realize I wouldn't be returning here on future visits...
