I injured my shoulder back in HS playing football. I have been able to manage the injury by staying active. However, as one ages and stress levels increase, the body does not recuperate the same. What has worked in the past in no longer effective. I reached out to Dr. Jon to see if my recent headaches were related especially after being told to take medication for the headache. I wanted to get down to the root cause, not just a temporary fix (pills). I also wanted to stay active, so I sought out something I could do to proactively prevent pain. His method works as I am able to correct my deficiencies and get stronger, while eliminating my headaches.
Jon is a great teacher. Sure he can help ease the pain during his sessions, but he teaches movements (stretches and exercises) that help long after the visit is over.
I really enjoy the one-on-one treatment because not everyone is the same and my injury and recovery is unique. The cookie cutter approach was effective back then, but my injuries have matured and so does the level of attention needed.
Given that I still want to play sports, I wanted someone who can tell me to continue or how to modify what I am doing so I do not have to stop cold turkey or just take pills. Most places tell you to stop or to do something else. Jon suggests a modification and you test and report. If it works, great. If not, then you adjust the modification and retry. There is no simple solution, but Jon is there to help along the way.
I am always skeptical upfront. However, Jon said right away, you can come as often or as infrequent as you like. I was used to "let’s do this for six weeks to see what happens". There was no pressure to commit long term, which is great.
From my past experiences, Jon was different than other physical therapists. It wasn’t the usual look at a book for an exercise that fits the injury, perform some reps, and ice. Here, you try something, if it works, you continue and keep adding until you reach your comfort level. You also get down to the root cause, not just treat the symptoms. Preventative maintenance is how I can best phrase the difference.
The customer service is great. I get the attention I need for the injury at hand. Some days it is more about massaging and others it is more about developing the stabilizing muscles to reach a better form. Other days it might be something completely different. This has been a learning experience. As we age, it is not just about the exercise but also the recovery.
The importance of finding a place that can help you modify your workout versus completely eliminating an exercise is critical. Anytime you stop, you atrophy. This is why Jon sits high on my list. Working towards a goal that doesn’t make one stop what you enjoy. Just modify what you love so that you can continue to enjoy as you age. As a bonus, I am able to lift heavier after addressing some of my form flaws. Long are the days where I could get away without...
Read moreI first came under Dr. Jon’s care my senior year of high school in 2018. I’m a rower, and at the time had been struggling with severe pain in my left shoulder for a few months. The pain worsened and my left arm began to swell and turn purple. My left hand lost feeling and I had shooting pain down my left arm. I was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. My doctor recommended Dr. Jon for physical therapy to treat my Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, and I’ve been working with him ever since.
Dr. Jon stood out to me as different in my first session with him. His knowledge was evident during my first appointment with him, as he immediately brought up that I should talk to my doctor about receiving an ultrasound to ensure that I had no blood clots, a consequence of serious cases of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. His individualized attention and focus on the whole body, not just the specific injury at hand, are just a few reasons he is the best physical therapist I’ve ever worked with. He is patient, knowledgeable, happy to answer any and all questions, and is extremely kind and personable.
Dr. Jon single-handedly saved my rowing career. I’m now a junior in college competing for a division 1 team, and my continued work with Dr. Jon (both in person when I am home and via Telehealth at school) is one of the reasons why I have been able to continue to row for the last four years without any major injury.
I tore my ACL my freshman and sophomore years of high school and had worked with separate physical therapists for those injuries. I fully believe that if I had worked with Dr. Jon in the rehabilitation of my ACL tears from the beginning, I would have made a much quicker recovery. He has since taught me proper running form that has allowed me to run long distances while protecting my knees from future injury. This has made a major difference in my athletic career.
Dr. Jon has not only rehabilitated my shoulder, he has taught me how to prevent future injury. Dr. Jon has made me a better athlete, and has allowed me to continue to compete in high-level sports for years to come. I cannot recommend Dr. Jon and...
Read moreI was so excited and thankful that Dr. Jon Crawford decided to open his own clinic. He had helped me in the past and fixed all my injuries. (I have had plenty, you might say I am bit accident prone). I thought he was the best then, but I am now convinced that he has magic hands. I came to see Dr. Jon this time around for my injured knee. I literally could not walk without pain or do much of anything else. For an extremely active person this was really depressing. I called Dr. Jon and made an appointment right away. He explained how his new clinic worked, Dr. Jon’s communication was professional, informative, and concise. What I love most of Dr. Jon is he treats the whole person, not only your immediate injury but the source and the effects of the injury. He asks and listens to you attentively and makes you apart of the recovery process. Having been to other PT clinics in the past with little or no results, I think the reason Dr. Jon’s approach is so much more effective is that he takes everything into account and is willing to go above and beyond to not just fix your injury but help and educate you to prevent further injuries. The one-on-one physical therapy experience has been incredible not only for the personalized attention but because in this age of COVID I feel safe going to my appointments. Dr. Jon has been treating me for 3 weeks, I can walk up and down stairs with little to no pain (which I couldn’t do before), I am starting to do exercises under his supervision that I thought I would not be able to ever do again (deadlifts, and squats). I was so impressed with Dr. Jon that I have referred 2 of my family members to him and they have become patients as well. If you want results with someone who really cares about you and your recovery Dr. Jon is the physical therapist for you. He is truly...
