I visited Marjan Fine Persian Grill with a close friend on a beautiful evening, and what followed was a dining experience marked by grace, care, and subtle attention to detail. We were welcomed just beyond the front door at a small podium. The interior is arranged in such a way that, once seated, you can see only your own table and perhaps a few others, a layout that creates a quiet, intimate atmosphere, rare in most restaurants. We chose to sit on the patio, drawn by the pleasant weather. Our table was nestled beside a flower bed in full bloom, adding a natural elegance to the setting. The staff prepared our table with a crisp white tablecloth and soft green linens that were clean and thoughtfully pressed without being overly stiff. Menus were paper, tucked into folding plastic sleeves. This appeared simple and practical. Cold water arrived promptly in two glasses. The menu was descriptive and helped us get a good sense of each dish’s ingredients. That said, someone unfamiliar with Persian cuisine might not immediately recognize which dishes are meant as dips or small plates. A bit more context would help newcomers better navigate what is clearly a well curated menu. To start, we shared the kashk-e-bademjan, a warm eggplant dip rich in roasted flavor and depth from grilled onions. When we finished the bread before the dip, more was brought to us without request or charge. It was a small gesture, but one that reflects genuine hospitality. I ordered the Shishlik (lamb chops), which the menu and our server informed us were grassfed and imported from New Zealand. The meat was beautifully cooked, tender, juicy, and clean on the palate, with no heaviness. A few slices of lime on the plate allowed for just the right touch of acidity to brighten each bite. The dish was served with basmati rice, a standout on its own. The rice was aromatic, warm, and perfectly textured, with seasoning that was flavorful yet balanced. It made a wonderful companion to the meal, and even after the lamb was gone, I found myself happily finishing what remained on the plate. My mint tea arrived with sugar on the side, allowing me to adjust it to my preference. It paired nicely with the food, especially the rice, and added a refreshing balance to the richer elements of the meal. My friend ordered the kabob-e-kubideh and remarked on how juicy and flavorful the kabob was. It had a deeply appetizing aroma and was cooked just right. It was moist but not oily. One thoughtful detail worth highlighting was the water, which was brought to us in a decanter filled with ice. This small touch meant we never had to wait for refills or ask for more. We simply poured as needed. It made the meal feel relaxed and uninterrupted. Our server was attentive and checked in at appropriate moments. We never felt rushed or forgotten. When we asked for the check, it was brought without delay. The only aspect of the experience that felt out of step with the rest was the restroom. While it was clean and well stocked, it showed signs of neglect. A wet floor sign stood in the corner without purpose, and the walls bore marks and holes from hardware that had long been removed. It didn’t affect the hygiene, but it did slightly detract from the overall sense of care that was so evident elsewhere. That said, the water was warm, and the soap had a lovely scent, small but appreciated comforts. In all, Marjan offered us more than a meal. it offered us a moment of peace and richness, shared among good company. The food is excellent, the service attentive, and the setting thoughtful. I would not hesitate to return.

I was so excited to try this place but I was pretty disappointed. I ordered the shrimp with specialty rice, $33 and the cucumber mint yogurt dip which was about $10. With delivery it came to about $60. I wished I had tried something a bit more affordable on the menu because this just wasn’t what I thought it would be. The dip was very runny, a water like consistency so much that it exploded upon opening. Barely any mint detectable and quality of yogurt seems to be poor. The wheat wrap it comes with was not very tasty and it was extremely dry and difficult to bite. The barberry rice was overly sweet, which with the right compliment could be great, but the shrimp were overly salted, so in combination it was not great. The shrimp were so over salted that barely any shrimp flavor came through. The rice was the best part of the dish and I wished I had tried that with chicken for the lunch special instead. I was trying to get something special for myself but I was really disappointed. Just giving my honest opinion here since I trusted the 4.5 star review.

Dinner for two outdoors. Most of the food was either very good or not so good. Very good - Chicken sultani: the ground sirloin kebab was good, and the chicken kebab was excellent, flavorful and moist. - Dolmeh: I loved that tangy pomegranate sauce, it made the grape leaves among my favorite ever. - Persian ice cream: unique tasting ice cream (rose water, saffron, pistachio). A must-try if you're adventurous with ice cream, less so if you're an ice cream traditionalist. Good - The thin bread they served us with the appetizers. 3 rounds, each time hot and crispy. - Kashk-e-Bademjan (eggplant) Not good - Hummus: blandest I've had. We wondered if they forgot to season it? - Koresht-e-bademjan: The eggplant was good but the lamb was dry. The stew tasted herbal but lacking something (maybe lacking salt).

Every detail of the dishes, down to the finest ingredients has clearly been considered and made from scratch. Marjan was far more than an exciting find on a business trip - it will become a staple during my stays in NJ. The food is made with the best ingredients, clean, and simple (yet the flavors are out of this world delicious).

My fiancée and I both started with an order of the homemade Dolmeh - grape leaves - (if you get homemade grape leaves - you know it). They were spot on perfect, as was the Kashk-e-Bademjan, a puree of eggplant sautéed with onions and finished w/ yogurt sauce and garlic - from there we knew we were in for a taste bud journey for dinner. For our main course we both also ordered the Grass Fed New Zealand lamb chops with the saffron rice. Hello!!! Tender bites of saffron infused lamb chops were mouthwatering. Each table had it's own shaker of Sumac (a Middle Eastern herb that has a tangy/zestiness and actually has medicinal benefits for diabetics - stabilizing the blood sugar). Sumac is expense - just like saffron: it these herbs were used generously. We were impressed! For dessert, we ordered the homemade Baklava and the Faloudeh. We wish that we took pictures because the presentation of all the dishes, including dessert, what as impressive as the food itself.

The waitress was very attentive and kind - she was most gracious and helpful in her suggestions. The owner was a clear reflection of the richness of his creative dishes - his great spirit and clear joy for loving what he does radiated. He checked on us, as well, several times and made sure that we tried his homemade Persian ice cream. We forgot how full we were when we tried the generous sample that he shared with us. We will never forget his Persian ice cream - it was the most delicious and unique dessert we have had.

Bottom line: my fiancée and I are very picky eaters. We will spend a lot of money on food to ensure that it is of high quality. We are lucky that we do not live near Marjan - or we'd be there several times a week. On a scale from 1 - 10: Marjan hits it out of the park...

My friend and I had dinner here last night. We were lucky enough to be seated by the window. The food was wonderful! We had the Persian iced tea, which was very good. For dinner, I had the lamb shank, and my friend had a kabob. Both meals were delicious, and the lamb was so tender it was falling off the bone. The Persian ice cream was the perfect way to top off our meal! We enjoyed the food so much that it was mostly gone before we could snap a photo...lol.

Even more importantly, the service here is outstanding. After we finished our meal, we had some trouble remembering the location of the public garage where we had parked, and we were walking around for quite some time. We spoke with the owner of the restaurant to ask for assistance, and he suggested two local parking garages. After checking those places without success, we returned to the restaurant, where the owner actually walked us to the correct parking garage and helped us find our car. He was incredibly kind and understanding. We are so grateful to him for his patience and for going above and beyond to assist us just as panic was starting to set in. You cannot find this kind of service everywhere, especially not nowadays, so that was huge for us.

We highly recommend Marjan, and we will definitely be returning! Thank you for a wonderful experience, and most of all for your kindness and...
