Iâm a lifelong thrifter and lifelong Milwaukee resident. I go thrifting across SE Wisconsin several times per week.
While prices are going up at most thrift stores (both national chains and locally-owned), this Goodwillâs prices are comically high. Damaged, decrepit Pyrex (with no lid, I might add) for $15! Glassware is $1.99 at this store while itâs $0.99 at most other Goodwills in SE WI. I picked up a Pillsbury Dough Boy napkin holder and it was⌠$6.99. Okay. They seem to have more of the âboldâ stickers (see attached images) on their items than regular stickers!
On top of the insane prices, there are always reseller vultures waiting by the staff door so they can dig through the new carts and look items up on eBay. They subsequently block other shoppers from looking and create a major traffic jam in the home goods section. (I should add that navigating this store on a weekend is like being in a mosh pit, but thatâs to be expected.)
Goodwill gets their items FOR FREE and has the audacity to charge antique mall prices for DAMAGED stuff. Racine isnât exactly a wealthy area, so Iâm not sure how or why these prices are justified. Maybe theyâre trying to compensate for the bins nearby? I seriously donât get it.
Goodwill is a for-profit company that donates less than 1/8 of their profits back into the community while pricing out low-income shoppers who rely on used items to survive. This store is a perfect example of why the nickname âGreedwillâ exists. I love thrifting in Racine but I will no longer be coming...
Read moreOur overall experience was alright. We asked 2 employees where to find something and neither could help. What was nice is that another employee went out of her way to find me and ask me what it was I was looking for and was a great help. Customers are just rude but thats not in your control. The only other thing was the 2 employees at the register had the worst customer service skills ever. They laughed at my wife for what she was buying and made jokes about it. We spent $30 on different tea set things and they weren't even going to wrap these things in newspaper or anything else. They also expected my wife to do it all herself and put it in the box they gave her. My wife was very embarrassed and almost in tears because of this experience. We are very disappointed with our visit today and it will effect us returning to this location in the future. I love Goodwill and always stop when I see one while travelling. I have to say that this one was the worst. I guess to sum it up, 1 out of 5 employees had any customer...
Read moreThe prices are astronomical! And since there is no colored tag day itâs even worse. I can find books in better condition elsewhere. ALSO, they price things that should go together, separately. When I asked to speak to a manager, a young guy walked up and was immediately dismissive. I explained the situation and that it didnât make sense to sell something without its pieces and making people pay for two separate things when they go together, he said he could give me A DOLLAR off of what the total wouldâve been!!! What?! Again, youâre the ones selling this stuff over priced AND separate when itâs an item that goes together. I just donât understand who these people think they are. This stuff comes to you for FREE and youâre selling it all like itâs brand new stuff. $15 for a hoodie? Be so for real right now. I wonât be returning to this location or any for that matter. Iâll be supporting local, smaller better...
