My family and I live on the road for part of the year and recreation centers often make great stops to workout, have some fun and shower. You can't be on a separate floor or room from your child and there is nothing for an adult and child to do in the same space. I can't walk the track, and they play basketball/soccer. If one child wants to play soccer and the other basketball this is not possible. For a parent with multiple children wanting to have a space to get exercise together...
