My ex wife and I (with our 16 yr old daughter & 3 pets) were in town visiting my daughter at school. My ex wife checked in on Friday 2/14 , while i arrived on Saturday 2/15. We had separate rooms, but both were linked to my choice privileges account. Upon my arrival on saturday, I checked in dropped my bag off in my room, the went to my ex wife's room to see her and my daughter. When chatting with my ex wife , she told me the hotel seemed a little out of hand on Friday evening when she arrived. Apparently, the hotel had booked a wedding into one of those small meeting rooms and there was alot of drinking and loud somewhat obnoxious behavior going on thru the hall ways and lobby. She also told me at one point a hotel employee knocked on her door because they smelled marijuana in the hall way and wanted to see if it was coming from her room. The employee determined it was not. I can assure you that my ex wife and 16 yr old daughter were not smoking marijuana or even my 2 dogs who were also in the room. While in my ex's room, she happened to be looking at her banking online and noticed the hotel had put a total of $535.00 charges onto her card , One of the charges was a $250 smoking fee. My ex wife does not smoke , so we went to the front desk to find out why she was charged this fee. Thats when we had the absolute pleasure of mtg. the general Mgr. Sara Thompson. Thats when we found out that Sara Thompson was trying to blame my ex wife for the marijuana smell. That is COMPLETELY absurd. We tried to explain to Sara that it was in no way my ex wife that caused the odor but probably one of the unruly wedding guests that she had no control over the night before but she told us multiple times she didnt care and the owner would fight us on the charge. When i told her ive been staying at this particular hotel for over 5 years and this had never happened before she told me " I dont care , ive been here for 8 ". I have worked in the hotel industry myself for over 25 years and have never met a woman more rude , ignorant, and completely unprofessional. How this woman is responsible for running day to day operations at such a small hotel is beyond me. So needless to say, my family, my pets, and I left your hotel on Saturday 2/15 and went to The comfort Inn & Suites in Cedar Rapids , IA. and were treated the hospitality every hotel guest deserves. I had multiple rooms booked in May at the Sleep Inn Suites in Mount Vernon , also multiple rooms booked at the same time in North Liberty , IA and have since cancelled all of them. I will never return to the Sleep Inn & Suites in Mount Vernon and to be honest, Im not to sure I'll ever stay at a Choice Privileges hotel again after...
Read moreThe Air conditioning didn't work well so our room was hot, the room had a moldy smell, the bed was uncomfortable, When using Direct TV on demand you had to turn up the volume to 100 to hear the television, the coffee was horrible, the dining area was uncomfortably warm, There was also a sign posted on the Thermostat which stated 72 degrees in the summer and 68 degrees in the winter. This sign subliminally told me that the ownership was more concerned about the bottom dollar more than the customers experience. This made me wonder if my bed had been cleaned and how often were the sheets changed.
When I called in to make a reservation I asked what the price of the room was. Instead of getting a direct answer I was led into an uncomfortable conversation being asked What price was I expecting. I felt as if I was being scammed. It seemed to me the person on the phone was acting more like a car salesman and more concerned about how much money they could get out of me instead of being concerned about my stay or my experience.
I don't like to be negative, but was sent an email and asked my thoughts. The Women working the front counter were great, happy, and very pleasant unlike the man I spoke with on the phone. Through simple unobtrusive questions to one of the women working at the front I was shocked to find out that it was the owner who took my call for the reservation. I am sure he will read this which is fine. I only ask that he reads this with an open mind to make adjustments instead of as a negative. I work in sales and have to bend over backwards for my customers even when I feel it cost our company money. At the end of the day I know my customer service bring us in millions of Dollars which far outweigh the pennies we lose on petty bottom dollar decisions.
On a side note, the night before we stayed at a hotel in Monticello Iowa. The woman working the front counter was very rude and acted like she didn't want to be there. Matter of fact There was another man waiting to get checked in when we arrived and the woman was no where to be found. After 20 minutes of waiting for her to come to the front counter and a very uncomfortable check in we finally got our room. My experience was very shocking to say the least, but the Air condition was wonderful, the room didn't smell moldy, the bed was very comfortable, the TV worked fine, the coffee was Seattle's Best and didn't taste cheap, and my room didn't cost as much...
Read moreThis was an unplanned, last minute overnight stop during a long road trip. I had made a reservation at another hotel but due to an unexpected power outage they could not accommodate me. I used the Choice Hotel App and found the Sleep Inn in Mount Vernon was close to my route of travel, so I made a last-minute reservation using the App. I arrived about 2-hours after making the reservation and was immediately greeted and made to feel welcome. Check in was quick and I was in my room. The room was relatively clean, but there was trash from a previous guest in both the trash can in the room and in the bathroom. I mentioned this to the front desk employee who immediately move me to another room The second room was clean well attended. The bed was clean, well made, and comfortable. The Wi-Fi was only ok. It was slow at times and especially when a lot of guest were attempting to use it. Later in the evening it worked very well and served my need. There is a Hardee’s, Subway, and a Casey’s nearby. If you want something more, I would strongly suggest that you get it before arriving. There is nothing else close by that I could find. The parking lot is in good condition and well lit. After the initial hiccup with the first room my stay was good. The employees that I encountered were all friendly and very accommodating. This hotel is kind of remote and out of the way, but all things considered, I would...
