Secretary of State Office — Local services in Muskegon Charter Township

Tried to renew tabs on line for my truck but the SOS system didn't allow, it stated I had to go the the SOS office in person. I tried to make an appointment on line but the again SOS system would not allow for tab renewal. Went down to Muskegon branch at 9:00 and was told I needed an appointment, said I tried but could not because there wasn't a tab renewal category. Made the appointment for 11:00 with the attendant at the door but as I stood there a person with a 11:45 appointment was able to sit down to get in line two hours early. I waited two hours in the car and went back in. When I was finally getting my tabs I informed the SOS of the system about the appointment system she said you just "make up" an arbitrary category. It was a 2 1/2 lesson on how our poor use of technology has created a longer wait time then the paper...

My wife and I just moved to the area from out of state and needed to get registered in Michigan. The person who I was given was an absolute shrew. I asked about becoming a resident and what needs to be done and she coldly handed me a form and told me to go sit down. After filling it out and waiting to get called back I asked about the enhanced ID process and she quite literally threw a fit saying everything had to start all over now. I was actually embarrassed by her behavior. Geez sorry lady, you gave me the form to fill out. I told her to forget it, just get me out of here. My wife on the other hand had a great experience. If there is anything I hate more in life when it comes to being an adult it’s going to the goddamn Secretary of State office! Especially the one here in Muskegon….. They don’t leave any damn notes on the website as far as what to bring to your appointment. The lady behind the desk told me it’s common knowledge that people should just know what to bring If that was a case, I think the world would run so differently, but that is not the case obviously! How the hell am I supposed to know that since my initial ID it states that I have to wear corrective lens why the hell would I have to retake an eye test to prove the exact same point that my next ID will still say CORRECTIVE LENS lol...
