Vicentes Supermarket — Local services in New Bedford

Well well well...this place for meat lovers is a hidden gem. I'd like to start out by saying, I wish Google Reviews allowed to you respond to other customers posts. Someone made a post about the staff only speaks Creole and that's it. Also that the cashier's are just kids that don't know anything about the store. I can say I've been to this store nearly a dozen times at this point and that couldn't be anymore further from the truth. I am a 39 year old white guy that only speaks English and broken Portuguese btw! lol Let me begin....

I'd like to point out, that this store TO ME is mainly going to be used for the BUTCHER SHOP and the KITCHEN. I have bought odds and ends from the grocery department before, but the prices are average and nothing over the top cheap and compared to Market Basket or Shaw's finding every day items may be a little tougher on you. That's not a knock, by any means. The produce department is great also. Just pricing wise, not knocking my socks off compared to the way the BUTCHER shop does....

Now the greatest feature Vicente's offers it the 4 or 5 package deals of meat they have. They range from $39 to I believe $89 or $99ish. The amount of meat you get is astounding. Everything is fresh as can be. I've gotten 3 different packages and price points in the last 2 months and every single 1 I've been blown away. Quality. Price. and Customer Service by the butcher himself is so great. I unfortuntitly didn't get his name. But all 3 times the same man put my order together. When ordering these package deals he literally grabs the order right off of the shelves, rewraps everything and neatly packs it into a giant easy to carry box. I'm not going to get into detail about what the packages contain, I suggest you go to the website or download their APP which is another great feature.

Staying on the butcher for a second. He's always got a massive smile and happy doing his job. Great quick conversation. Look for him to serve you when you go, you won't be disappointed. Medium height African American dude with short hair...wish I got his name, but anyways....last time I went I figured I got to tip this dude because he's so damn good at his job. He kept refusing but I stuck it in the backroom under his glove box(yes he saw me do it) Was only $5 but as a former bartender, it's the feeling of appreciation that matters.

Also wanted to touch on the premade food over at the kitchen. I've only tried a few things so far. The catchupa(9.5/10) is UNREAL. I've had real deal Cape Verdean people make this and feed me before and Vicente's actually knocks theirs out of the water. It's so damn good and filling. I hear some days they do it with tuna, that version I can't endorse because I've only had the pork version. Also I've tried their yellow rice with black olives. 8/10. The only thing I didn't really like was the chicken empanadas/pastelitos (2.5/10) They were literally just about all flaky pastry and no chicken. But I think they are like 50 cents, so I didn't lose any sleep.

Lastly I highly recommend you get the app. Last week, they had a "deal of the week" which was a FREE 24 pack of Poland Springs waters. Which is great because my household goes thru bottle of water like it's our jobs. Every week they have a similar deal like this to get your butt in the store! So download the app, get you some unbelievably fresh meats and excellent...

I recently visited Vicente Supermarket to buy some food, and I was so impressed by Gabriela in the kitchen department! She was incredibly friendly with every customer, always wearing a warm smile. When it was my turn, she kindly asked my name and recommended the (vegetable soup with minced beef), assuring me I’d love it. I took her suggestion and bought it along with a few other item and she was absolutely right! The soup was delicious, but what really made my day was Gabriela’s kindness and welcoming attitude.

If the manager is reading this, please recognize Gabriela for her exceptional service. She truly deserves praise for making customers feel valued and cared for. Thank you, Gabriela...

New location, same Vicente’s that we’ve all come to know and love. Extensive inventory of ethnic products and produce that just can’t be found in mainstream supermarkets. If you’re Latin, Cape Verdean/African, this supermarket’s for you. My favorite is their hot food section. Everything is made fresh and is delicious - and reasonably priced too!
