One of the more interesting record stores you will go to. It is in an old church that is a dual record shop and concert venue so it is very unique.
The owner decorates the shop with a lot of stuff that he was I believe using for his hardcore music museum and even if you aren't into hardcore music the art and artifacts on display are neat.
One of the things I was surprised was the selection the owner has and has curated. He splits the shop between CD's and Vinyl and is looking to expand to cassettes.
The selection is fantastic. The variety is there, you very well could find a Charles Mingus record in jazz, to some Kraftwerk in electronic, to hard rock and classic rock staples. He has a deceptively solid country vinyl selection.
He breaks out a dollar room and you never know what you will find in there I found 2 gems there today.
His CD room is very well organized and all CD's are clean!
I think the three things you have to get under your belt when going to Preserving:
#1 It is Cash only, he has an ATM #2 When looking for an artist it is the first name so if you are looking for per se David Bowie you would look under the D's. #3 One of the more unique curations for organization the owner has things by genre and it isn't like rock, blues jazz, you got Post Punk, Pyschedelic, etc. so maybe an artist you think is in one area might be another and the owner is gracious in pointing you to the direction.
Lastly offers a fantastic CD resurfacer/cleaning of discs for $2 disc and he works with you if you bring in a lot. I took a few and the discs are brand new.
I highly recommend Preserving Record Shop, it is truly an ideal music...
Read moreHorrible online record experience. Ordered 1 LP from this store and received the wrong item. The seller responded with an attempt to discredit their error like I was aware this might happen, which I was not. Owner attempted to pass blame calling me a “rookie” vinyl collector, when yet he himself, couldn’t mail the correct album.
The record was mailed in an already used box from another customer, which was obvious from the severe damage it endured. This is not typical or acceptable in many situations especially when overcharging / profiting from shipping. Total loss here is only $13, but the dishonesty of the owner is priceless...Acting like my sale was worthless is hard to forget as he will likely treat you just as poorly.
After several messages where the owner passively threatens to come to my address, I have opened a case with PayPal in hopes they can assist in the refund process.
I have asked for a refund and not received it!...
Read moreI really hate to have to rate a non big box store so lowly. I know I will receive a reply to this as all other non 5 star feedback receives similar responses. This is my honest review of my experience with Preserving selling on Discogs. My item arrived damaged and improperly packaged, the seller stated in their selling terms it would ship in a whiplash mailer, which this is not and that it was in near mint condition, which may have been the case pre shipment but did not arrived in said condition. They did ship on time which is greatly appreciated however the contact I've had with them has been less than stellar. I sent a response over discogs and was returned nothing but hostility in return as the photos below can show. I'm sure there are good people working at this shop who are not involved in my situation however this was extremely disappointed and far from...
