I hereby declare the New Kensington Business District as The Brewery District! Where Strange Roots and Voodoo Brewery stand as the twin pillars of flavor and community.

But wait—there’s more! The Brewery District isn’t just about beer (though that alone would be worth the trip). It’s also home to incredible bakeries, coffee shops, family owned restaurants, and so much more. Whether you need a caffeine fix before your beer adventure, a sweet treat to balance out the hops, or a cozy spot for a meal, New Ken has you covered.

And let us not forget the cornerstone of the District—Common Oven Pizza Co, where their artisan wood-fired pizza and sandwiches aren't just meals, they're masterpieces "made by hand with sourdough from a blend of organic flour and whole grains milled in house. All the fresh mozzarella we use is made by hand, by us. Sandwiches are served on fresh sourdough bread, baked in the wood oven everyday." I'm just going to say it - one of the best pizzas I've ever had. I also endulged in a steak sandwich—no photo evidence, because it disappeared so fast it never stood a chance!

With walkable streets, fantastic outdoor seating, and enough personality to make even the most die-hard city dwellers jealous, New Kensington’s Brewery District is now officially on my map. So grab a pint and take a stroll.

Long live The Brewery...

My wife and made the trip to New Kensington back on 6/8/25. SOOO GLAD we did. We split a Cheesesteak and got a 16” with Pepperoni, Mushrooms, and the “House Made” Sausage. Everything was DELICIOUS! And the staff was EXTREMELY FRIENDLY. Bonus, is they are located inside Strange Roots Experimental Ales. So we were able to enjoy an adult beverage with our food! We will definitely go back!!!

We also placed a to go order for our son and Mother in Law, an Italian and a Cheesesteak. I also decided to bring home a Grandma Pie with Meatballs and Caramelized Onions (couldn’t go all that way without trying it, pics to follow tomorrow). When they brought out the order, I noticed a lot more food than what we ordered. Turns out the first pie good overcooked so they remade it. Told us to take both (we gave it to my wife’s friend that met us for lunch, it wasn’t even that bad). In addition, they gave us an order of garlic knots and 2 homemade chocolate chip cookies for the added wait time. This says a lot about their...

There’s nothing common about Common Oven. They’re in an elite status of their own. I know great pizza, especially sourdough, and this is exceptional sourdough pizza. Did I mention that the fresh mozzarella is made in house? Flavors are far above satisfying, leaving a euphoric sense of satisfaction. I encourage you to pick any menu item, they’re all winners. If you’re a drinker, you’re only a handful of steps away from some scientifically crafted potions, that, I assure you, will pair delicately with your meal. Into sourdough, organic, and baked goods? There’s delicious choices on Sunday that you do not want to miss out on. If you’re a local, live in the area, or just passing through, I’m giving a solid stamp of approval here. Perfect atmosphere for social gatherings, conversations with old friends, and hungry tummies. For the gods of sourdough, mozzarella, tomatoes, and fire, please make some time and...
