Dark Garden Corsetry and Couture — Local services in New Orleans

Writing this review in the airport after 11 days visiting the New Orleans area, I can honestly say that visiting Dark Garden here was the highlight of the trip for me. What an extraordinary place! I’m absolutely smitten and cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Dropping in we were warmly greeted by Annabelle, and after talking a bit she cheerfully offered to help me pick some corsets to try on. I was concerned prior to visiting that I might feel awkward asking to try on these high end pieces even though I was clearly a corset novice and likely wouldn’t be buying anything during my visit, but I really got the impression that it’s understood these purchases are significant and that they are truly happy to help regardless. Not once did I feel pressured and Annabelle just seemed happy to make it a lovely experience for me.

She was also generous with her knowledge. She took my measurements, showed me a basic chart of their various corset forms and explained a bit about the benefits of their shapes; what to look for in a proper fit; the excellent materials they use; how to best care for them; the process of properly lacing them and then taking them off in a way that maintains the integrity of the hardware for the long run. I was STUNNED by how much I loved wearing these corsets. They felt just awesome (even sitting, which she had me try, as well), and looked amazing! Annabelle stored my measurements and later, with my permission, contacted me to provide that information along with quotes for each of the styles I’m interested in. Dark Garden is great on so many levels. They make beautiful work that fits exactly as it should. They do it locally, paying local living wages to their local employees. They help everyone who wears their products feel beautiful and confident. I've been ordering their work for about 14 years and I have a lovely collection.

Recently I got a medical condition that put me in a wheelchair and for which abdominal support is very helpful (for my now too-weak-to-hold-me-upright muscles) and abdominal constriction is helpful (for accompanying blood pressure issue). My doctor prescribed a medical corset (usually a nasty, ugly uncomfortable thing), and Dark Garden was able to fill it. They custom altered an existing under-bust to meet my medical needs and to better suit my usually-seated position, which is the kind of thing Dark garden has done for so many others before me.

If something in an order ever isn't quite right (yet), they are always ready to make it better.

A good friend of mine is having a themed event and asked me where to get a good corset. Based on having been here before and trying on a corset out of curiosity, I knew Dark Garden would be our stop! Setting the appointment was very simple and fast. I received a confirmation email right after scheduling and a reminder email an hour before my appointment. Three of us attended, we all have different body types and there was something for all of us. Annabelle did a phenomenal job answering questions and offering insight into the best styles for our curves and aesthetics.
