Loved it. But, before I continue, I have spent a lot of time in other countries and appreciate vibe/company over speediness. Was it super fast? No. But, that's not what we wanted. I walked by here when Christmas shopping and really wanted to try it. I invited some friends and we had a party of 6 on a Saturday afternoon. When we checked in, every table was full, but our reservation/table was waiting. Yay! We didn't have our whole party at first, but we were told "no sweat". Ah, perfect. Two of our friends were running more behind than expected, but we got drinks and an app. What I loved: it seemed like all the servers took care of all the tables, to some degree. Four of us had bottomless mimosas, and maybe we're not hardcore enough, but our carafe was never empty. Appetizers were brought quickly(by my standards) and the mains in the right amount of time. By the time we were wrapping up, the restaurant was emptying and they didn't rush us. It was perfect. :) The food was really good. No one had any complaints and I swear, we tried the whole menu.

Service by Jessica and crew was fabulous. They were food knowledgeable and funny at times. They were truly interested in helping to make our experience with our dining worthy of a return visit. I had never had Jambalaya before and wanted to taste it. I thoroughly enjoyed Jambalaya Fumada as did my son. My wife ate a beet salad with fried balls of goat cheese. Normally I get a taste but not this time. She was savoring her meal so I didn’t want to disturb her gastronomic delight. Basin Seafood and Spirits is a fairly small restaurant in the Garden District of New Orleans. Sometimes the real gems aren’t the really big restaurants. I spent a lot of time in the French Quarter so it felt great to spend time in the quieter Garden District. I didn’t feel rushed or crowded. If you have time to enjoy the quieter side of life, check out the Garden District and wonderful restaurants such as Basin Seafood and Spirits. Don’t leave without trying the Banana Rum Cake.

The hours on Google are wrong AND they haven’t set their Resy up correctly. We made a reservation for 9 PM through their reservation link. Showed up and were told that they were closed and that they don’t take reservations that late. They claimed that they called me twice to cancel. Which is true, but I did not answer because the call came from a blocked number (it came across as “No Caller ID”. They did not leave a message. They did not cancel through Resy. They did not send a text through Resy. They were relatively helpful and nice, but I would still have preferred that they left a message/made sure we were aware that they would not be honoring our reservation. I would have more sympathy if I felt like they used all available remedies. We walked 30 minutes in the 40 degree weather expecting dinner and I had cancelled another reservation in favor of this one. On the bright side, we went to Bouligney Tavern at the suggestion of the host. It was incredible and the service was lovely. Skip Basin and their management issues and go straight to Bouligney.

Edit: So I decided to go to Basin and actually give it a chance. Went on a Monday evening for happy hour. Small happy hour menu, the deals weren’t great. We split some drinks, oysters, and two orders of the happy hour tacos and our bill was like $150. The drinks were mediocre. Frivolous/inedible garnish. The oysters were okay. Good quality, poorly shucked/cleaned. The happy hour tacos were the highlight. Should have just gotten 3 orders of those. The strangest part of the meal was that we were there from 5:30 pm-9 pm and we were the only table in the whole restaurant. Lots of staff though. And the service was decent. It was just an uncomfortable experience. They have a good location, but they need to tighten up on some of the quality issues. I am keeping my original...

My mother and I ate here for her birthday recently.  We were seated in the back by the kitchen, which ordinarily wouldn't have bothered me, except the chairs at the back tables are metal and not very comfortable.  Our server was friendly and attentive; drinks and food were served quickly.  We ordered the chargrilled oysters for an appetizer, and then the three course coolinary menu.  The food was absolutely amazing; the portions are small but sufficient.

However, while we were eating our first course, every table in the restaurant filled up.  On the plus side, the sound proofing in the space is excellent; as noisy as the place became, Mom and I were still able to carry on a conversation.

On the downside, however, the service just... stopped.  It took about a half an hour for us to get our second course; I don't think either dish should have taken nearly an hour to prepare from the time we ordered.  It was another half an hour before we got one dessert, then several more minutes to get the second; by the time we got our coffee it was room temperature.

Even though we were right by the kitchen, and the staff were passing by our table constantly, our server seemed to avoid even looking in our direction.  Good thing we didn't need a refill on our drinks!

I understand that the staff were unprepared to be that busy on a Tuesday evening, but it didn't seem like they had any idea how to handle a rush regardless.

By the time we had paid our bill we had been at the restaurant for two hours, and we were both stiff from sitting in metal chairs for so long.

Overall the food was superb, and I definitely recommend this restaurant.  However, ask to be seated at a table closer to the front, and maybe try to time your visit so the place won't be...

Must have gone on an off day! Or is every weekday morning an off day? One server and one bartender and VERY slow service. While we were dining three tables were seated and proceeded to leave before ordering because they waited so long. Server was curt and clearly hated her job and co-workers.

We both ordered soup and po-boys, server offered us sides (but didn't mention that they were extra). Soup was hot and served in a somewhat reasonable time. We then waited 15+ minutes for our po-boys. My dining companion was given his fries a few minutes after the sandwiches arrived. My Brussels sprouts never arrived. We tried to get our servers attention multiple times, she was always to busy to check on us. After I had 1/4 of my sandwich left (10 minutes) my dining companion started to get up to alert her to the fact that we were missing food. She blamed the kitchen and implied they were "working on it." They were still working on it when we finished our meal and asked for our check. Do Brussels sprouts take 25 minutes (from when our food was served)?

It is important to note that there was a table next to us that left before we ordered and it sat dirty our whole meal. There were a total of 5 tables in the whole restaurant when we left and never more than 6 during the time we were there. Being too busy can't be used as an excuse.

Food was average to good, but not great. Timing to put out soup, sandwiches and sides were 1 star. Service was 1 star. As an out of town guest this was the worst meal we had during our...
