I received top service from Tru Rootz Salon, just as I have before. I've been going there on and off since the fall of 2018 because my daughter, Bria is also a loctician, who now has relocated from DC back to Houston, she also cares for my hair. At my most recent appointment(s) at Tru Rootz, I was washed upon arrival by the receptionist, then I saw Brother Cornell soon after, as he did my interlocking and then I came back later for my second appointment to have my hair styled into a "loc petal mohawk". Know that my left side is shaved as my testimony so I keep it shaved as my testimony in memory of the "brain stroke" I'd had as a result of a unknown birth defect that had lain dormant in my life until the birth of my 4th child. I also had and a heart attack shortly after my brain surgery while I was in recovery. I like sharing my "testimony visually", and even if people don't ask🤔, they'll see that "I've been thru something serious" and should realize that I am blessed to still be here, with "most" of my senses in "working order".😜 All thanks to God for keeping me here, cause He's got more for me to do. Anyway, Brother Cornell styled my hair into "loc petals" as my daughter had previously done. I'd have to say that I "absolutely love" that I have a '"local salon" to go to for my "interlocking and styling options", when my daughter isn't available. Tru Rootz is just 5 minutes from my home. Overall I love the conversations I've had with Brother Cornell and his co-workers who work hard at their craft to keep their clients looking and feeling beautiful and/or handsome❣️ Also I love the scents along with the feelings of peace and calm in their...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. I never write reviews but this place was full of audacity. I arrived for a 5pm appointment. No one was there. I called and was told Bro. Cornell would be there in 5 minutes. That's fine, I understand people run late sometimes. 12 minutes later he shows up. I'm just happy to get started. Instead, he walks in, barely greets me, and begins talking on the phone and eating a meal. Now I understand everyone has to eat, but there was no communication as to when he would be starting. 5:30 rolls around and he still is chatting on the phone eating. I go to the counter to tell him he can cancel my appointment. The next day I call to discuss the matter and was never given an apology. He told me, "well I'm here all day, I have to eat." Which I then replied and said, "that's understandable, but there was no communication on when you would start." He just gives excuses and says "well maybe I'm not the loctician for you." Then hangs up on me. I have literally never been treated like this by anyone before. It was surprising because in previous interactions he seemed pleasant enough. I am a very understanding person. I told him I would have been fine with waiting if he just communicated he hasn't eaten all day. I would understand that. But no, he disrespects my time then hangs up on me the next day. This is a BUSINESS. Not a mom-and-pop shop or your neighbor's cousin who does locs. A full-blown, tax-paying BUSINESS. Yet, this is how I was treated. I have already filed a complaint with the BBB. Please choose somewhere else to go unless you are desperate and are okay with unprofessionalism. GO...
Read moreMy first appointment should have been my last. The main proprietor Cornell is very rude and unprofessional. He doesn’t answer the phone with the business name you have to ask, then when you get there the card machine mysteriously never works and he can only take cash but he has a whole I Pad to sign in on . I think he doesn’t have a checking account. Then no matter what time your appointment is for , he will never start on time because he over books being greedy. I have him a second chance even after being very unhappy with his work because I have a tricky hair pattern being of mixed ancestry (Black and Puerto Rican) yet again he was ill prepared with a client in his chair at my time and then took someone else before me who was sitting there waiting when I got there, meaning he also had been subject to the lack of professionalism. I was told “just give me a few minutes and I’ll be with you, mind you the guy in the chair had long locs being re twisted, and he had just started and it was already 20 minutes pass my 12 noon appointment time, so this time I followed my heart and left. He never bothered to apologize or try to accommodate me on any capacity knowing I drive over40 minutes each way to get to his shop. While he may do good work on some people his lack of , poor scheduling skills and overall arrogance are a turn off for me and my hard earned money. I love to support my own but I will not pay for abuse and disrespect, I wish I could give him negative stars. He has a negative, nasty energy that you do not want to be part of your journey. He needs to find another job where he can disrespect women...
