UPDATED 7/30/2025 Hoping for a Resolution

I purchased a 1985 Rolex Datejust 16014 from these guys on July 4th, 2025 (receipt and documentation all in hand). Unfortunately, by July 25th—just three weeks later—the watch has already stopped working.

It’s likely going to need service, and I’ll be taking it to an authorized dealer soon for a full diagnostic. Obviously, this is disappointing—especially for a purchase of this caliber, which should have been good to go for daily wear out of the gate.

UPDATE from my AD on 7/30- It going cost me $1k+ to get this fixed My AD said "Watch will need a servicing overhaul- crown and acrylic crystal replacement (the crystal was altered and must be replaced for service as not intended for this model)

That said, I want to be fair here. Mechanical watches—especially vintage—can be finicky, and I understand that issues can arise. What matters most is how situations like this are handled.

On a Friday mid Feb 2022 I dropped in the store, looking for a Cartier Santos (W2SA0016). He didn‘t have one in-store, but said to be able to offer one on Monday. The price he mentioned seemed to be OK too. So I came in again to have a look at the piece on the following Tue. Well, I was not only disappointed but even felt quite cheated: the watch clearly did NOT appear new, the gold bezel indicated the watch had been worn at least a few days — and not only the watch itself didn‘t appear mint, also the Cartier box had bumps and scratches. Plus: the Cartier warranty card mentioned original purchasing date mid 2020 — don‘t get me wrong, I have no issue with a NOS (New Old Stock) / vaulted watch. But his continuous insistence on that the watch was new when I clearly can point out why it‘s certainly not, is just really „not nice“, to say the least.
