We had a fantastic dinner. Our server, young Thai male dressed in black (trainee) was phenomenal. He was very knowledgeable on the menu snd did some great recommendations. Every dish was delicious.
Our reservation was for 10:15pm, we were told we needed to put our order by 10:45pm which we did order by 10:30pm including desserts. All the food came to the table within 5 minutes. It was all warm, tasty and of great presentation. The trainee did a great job throughout our dinner experience. Towards the end of our meal a female server named Anan took over our table and started rushing us to finish our main courses by 11:15pm. Leaving only 40 minutes total for our appetizers and main courses. She never introduced herself and only kept asking if she could clear plates from the table which we kept declining since she could see with her own eyes that we were still eating from. Never asked if we had enjoyed our meal or anything at all. While eating the desserts she asked if we wanted the check… come on leave us alone and let us enjoy our desserts! We had only been at the restaurant 1 hour. If everyone at the restaurant likes to go home early then they shouldn’t take 10:15pm reservations. She literally ruined our experience because of her annoying interruptions and rush. We declined for her to bring the check since we were still eating 11:30pm. Finally we asked for the check and paid with card and told her that we would leave the tip in cash which seemed to be such an offense to her. She acted so annoyed by it and said “we prefer credit card tips because we already closed the register… but you already hit the no tip button on the credit card machine…“ I swear by then she deserved $0.00 but we still left 18% because the trainee was great. At some point she came to check if we had left the cash on the table and asked “are you done with the payment “? Which we were… she had already collected our payment on credit card… was she just acting dumb? someone please explain Anan that the tip is not part of payment so why would she even ask that? Almost rushing us or pushing us to see the cash… She wad again interrupting us with her poor manners. Very annoying! We still give 5 stars because of the trainee. She gets -5 stars. She was not genuine, disinterested, lacked of respect for our business and for the service we were glad to pay for. Unusual for Thai hospitality. Again, food...
Read moreMy friend and I, are both fans of Thai cuisine, met for our first lunch at Mitra Thai on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. I must say that the environment is friendly and welcoming throughout your visit. Depending on when you go, there is a wait time, but worth it. Our wait time was 20 minutes. Seating begins when your whole group is present.
What stood out was that their menu features dishes from all four regions of Thai cuisine, providing you an opportunity to explore a variety of options.
Brook our waiter was attentive to our table, understood the cuisine, made excellent suggestions, and his excellent service made all the difference.
On the menu, Under Central Thailand starters, we ordered curry puff, which is minced chicken, potatoes, onions, curry powder with cucumber relish and oh so good and well seasoned. The cucumber relish was light and oozes tasty to the y. Listed under Southern Thailand starters, we ordered Roti Massaman. It’s pan-fried roti, with peanut, chicken massamun curry dipping sauce and lick you fingers delicious. The dipping sauce exceeded our expectations.
From the Street Food listing, my friend ordered Basil Fried Rice with chicken. The onions, hot chili, bell pepper, basil, friend egg mixed with rice, did I taste it, but of course. Rice cooked to perfection, you taste the basil, chicken was tender, onions, and yes, the hot chili which brings the spicey taste.
I had the Pad Thai with chicken. It had eggs, bean sprouts, scallions, red onions, sauteed rice, peanuts, chives, and sauteed rice noodles. I have tried Pad Thai at various restaurants across different states and found this particular version to be on the top. You taste the flavors, bite size seasoned tender chicken, love scallions in about anything and the rice was tender, with a slightly sweet taste. The rice noodles were perfectly chewy and light. I appreciated that the food wasn't overly eggy. Shout out to the chefs. We both ordered Thai ice tea, delicious!! Every dish was perfectly cooked and attractively presented.
I chose this restaurant because of its excellent ratings, and Mitra Thai lives up to them. I will be back again, again, again, again, well you...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Mitr Thai, and it was an unforgettable experience. I met up with a few friends I hadn’t seen in a while, and this place was the perfect spot to catch up over an incredible meal. Located near Rockefeller Center, Mitr Thai offers a vibrant yet cozy atmosphere, making it ideal for both casual gatherings and special occasions.
We started with the Hors D’Oeuvre Muang, a beautifully plated assortment of Northern Thai appetizers that gave us a perfect introduction to the bold flavors Mitr Thai is known for. The Nam Prik Ong, a rich Northern Thai chili dip with fresh vegetables and crispy pork rinds, was another highlight—spicy, savory, and utterly addictive.
We had Gai Gor Lae, a Southern-style grilled chicken with a deeply aromatic and slightly smoky curry glaze that was packed with flavor. The Roti Massaman was a crowd favorite—the tender, slow-cooked beef in a creamy, nutty Massaman curry paired perfectly with the crispy, buttery roti. The Tum Luang Pra-bang, a Northeastern-style papaya salad, was refreshingly spicy and balanced, adding a nice contrast to the richer dishes.
For the main course, we had a wide variety: the Khao Pad Nam Prik Kak Moo, a flavorful fried rice dish with crispy pork belly, and the Goong Muk Prik Klua, which featured perfectly sauteed shrimp and squid with chili cilantro spices. The Pla Tod Yum Ma Muang, a whole Branzino filet served crispy with a tangy mango salad, was beautifully presented and full of bright, fresh flavors.
One of the most unique dishes we tried was the Yen Ta Fo Hot Pot—a comforting, Thai-style soup loaded with seafood, tofu, and morning glory. The tomato-based broth was rich, complex, and delicious.
Overall, the food was authentic, flavorful, and well-executed, with an extensive menu that highlighted regional Thai specialties beyond the usual Pad Thai and green curry. The service was warm and attentive, making our experience even more enjoyable (Mindy, thank you so much for your help—you were AMAZING!)
