Boarders of Rockaway Beach — Local services in New York

I came in looking for some flip-flops after losing mine on the beach (second time I've lost this!). They had a woefully small selection which I guess isn't surprising for a small shop, however, the brand names were just.... bad. Names I'd never heard of. The only pair in my size (and they had nothing under size 9) were a brand you can't find anywhere online at all—something called "Niki." Not cheap. $25. These things tore up my feet. By the time I got home, I was limping. After half an hour of wearing them, one foot has a huge red wound, the other seems like it has been injured deep inside, like a bad bruise. I'm still limping. The sandals are made of cheap and obviously inadequate material. Why wouldn't they have Havaianas or another decent brand? Ugh. I would really urge anyone from the store who reads this to get rid of this "Niki" brand. Cashier was...

I can't say enough good things about this surf shop! We came in looking for a boogie board for my daughter, and the staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Instead of just trying to sell us the most expensive option, they took the time to ask questions and made a perfect recommendation that fit our needs and budget. Unfortunately, we left the board out in the heat upside down and it blistered (completely our mistake). When I called the shop for advice, they were so understanding and offered multiple solutions, including a generous discount on a new board, which they didn't have to do at all. We followed their advice and the blisters on the board went away, so we didn't end up needing to buy another one. The board itself is fantastic, and my daughter is having a blast with it. I just rented a board. I like how they have lockers for you to leave your stuff while you surf and a shower for afterwards. I don't like that they are short of rash guard options (I had to use an oversized one). The second time I went there, there was also a crack on the board I rented, that I just noticed in the middle of the way to the beach. I went back and they gave me another board without a problem.

Apparently they have surfing classes, but I don't know...
