Breakwater Surf Co. — Local services in New York

I just took my nephew into this shop to buy him a 3/4 for his birthday. Definitely not in season until the Spring. There were many to choose from but not easily accessible. As I said, they’re out of season. I had to walk around this small store to get help. I was told “ oh, they’re way up there, I’ll have to get a ladder” I stated that I understood. He then stated “ oh, it’ll take me a half hour at least” My husband and I waited 15 minutes. I chose 2 shirts while we were waiting. There was no one else in the store. Finally the sales person stated: “It will be an hour”. We walked out. Never, never again. A Saturday morning in February? What’s this place like in July? I’m sure this was not the owner. Overrated! Went to rent a board yesterday (Saturday) and they were closed on a day they’re supposed to be open. No notification at shop, no voicemail message stating when they’ll be open again. Has happened 3 times already. They leave notes when they go out for coffee, but not when they’re closed. So traveling one hour to get to this shop only to find out it’s closed is a huge waste of time! I don’t know how surfers keeping their boards here deal with this issue! I considered buying a board and keeping it here, but the lack of consistency is a deterrent. Shop doesn’t have their act together. Staff is nice, but the young kids they’ve recently hired don’t have answers to surfing questions. Time to find a real surf shop with...

Left my surfboards on the side of the road, I was 45min away and needed someone to be a hero! Dylan didn’t waste any time and hopped in his car on a mission. The great people of Rockaway were nice enough not to walk away with them and Dylan brought everything back to the shop until I could get there. The shop is great too!
