Deeply Disappointed by Disrespectful and Traumatizing Experience. I’m writing to express my deep disappointment with the appalling behavior of store management and security staff at Burlington. My wife entered the store with her service dog, clearly marked with a vest, and was immediately stopped by a security guard. Despite her calm explanation that the dog is a service animal, he questioned her about her medical condition—a clear violation of her rights under New York law and the ADA, which prohibits such inquiries.
Matters escalated when a supervisor arrived and began shouting at my wife, further distressing her and our dog. Both were left visibly shaken and traumatized by the encounter.
When I returned to the store to speak with a manager, instead of acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, another manager became argumentative and defensive. Only after I insisted on the facts did she offer a half-hearted, conditional apology.
Burlington must do better. Your staff clearly lack basic training on how to treat customers with dignity and comply with legal protections for service animals. This experience was not only humiliating—it was discriminatory and entirely avoidable.
I hope this serves as a wake-up call for Burlington leadership to review your policies, train your staff, and ensure that no other customer is treated this way again. Read moreI came with a friend at late 9pm since the store hours state that it was open until 11 30 but we then get warned that the registers are getting closed in 30 MINUTES we were astounded and rushed to get what we wanted and went to the line only for there to be 1 register and someone who had a cart FULL OF THINGS also there were THREE workers one was the manager who was doing their job and cashiering people out while the other was folding clothes and the last one was just waiting to say how many more minutes there are until closing time the customer that was getting checked out had a cart full of things with at least 10 receipts with returns and was still thinking about what she wanted to get and what she didn't want AT THE REGISTER very dissatisfied with the manager for not telling her employees to open a register and instead saying that they were working even though one was just folding clothes which could wait until tomorrow but we CANNOT and the other was just standing and talking or on her phone while waiting to say how much longer there is!!! At this point there is over 10 PEOPLE WAITING for this one woman to finish she had a child with her too and it was a little past 10 so the poor girl was waiting so long for her mother she was about to fall asleep and she looked like she was SEVEN I can't believe this woman she could have a least leave her child at home with her dad!!!! Read moreI Was in this store today and was very frustrated & irritated because the line was like 50 people long and there were only 2 cashiers. The man who was the manager stood by idly and ignored the long line instead of helping out by opening another cashier. He walked away. After waiting 45 minutes or more on the line with others who became increasingly irritated (seniors, & mothers with crying infants waiting an hour??) I asked to speak to the manager. He was called 3 xs by the cashier & refused to come out or be of any service.then I decided to call the regional office to complain. Also This location doesnt like anyone speaking up because suddenly mall security arrived.what?? How offensive, Unreasonable & inappropriate in any customer service business. I hope the regional management team can improve on this location because not only did they lose a lot of customers who gave up waiting & walked out, but the treatment in this place is terribly uncalled for. The shelves & aisles are also a mess. There’s no excuse for any of this. I will never shop at this location again. The photos are from after we waited 45-50 minutes on line.
