I recently needed to open a new business checking account, and my experience at Capital One branches was nothing short of a nightmare. I first visited the Avenue U branch yesterday, where only one banker was working and a few people in front of me were also there to open business checking accounts. After waiting for about 30 minutes, I decided to approach the Russian-speaking banker to inform him about our needs. To my surprise, he told me that Capital One no longer opens business checking accounts at the branch and that the only way to do it is online.
I explained that the online system gives errors and doesn’t work, but he simply reiterated that online is the only option. Frustrated, I went back to my office and called the business department hotline. They informed me that the branch should be able to open the account and advised me to call back if the staff refused.
Determined to get this resolved, I returned to the Avenue U branch, only to be met with the same dismissive response from a different banker. This gentleman also insisted that they no longer open business accounts at the branch. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told that he was unavailable, and they refused to even provide me with his full name. I was astounded by how many people they sent away that day.
Still needing an account, I decided to try my luck at the Flatbush Avenue branch, where the experience was somehow even worse. The branch manager, Obi, was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful. The branch had only one banker actively assisting clients, while another banker stood around doing nothing. I waited for over an hour, during which I repeatedly asked if anything could be done to speed up the process. The idle banker refused to help, claiming no one was available, and even the manager offered no assistance.
Eventually, the banker who had been doing nothing begrudgingly attempted to help by guiding me through setting up the account online. I had already explained multiple times that the online system was not working and had failed for others trying to open business checking accounts in the branch. Yet, this was the best they could offer after I had wasted hours of my time waiting.
Across both locations, the staff displayed a shocking lack of professionalism and maturity. Their dismissive and disrespectful attitudes towards clients were appalling. It is clear that Capital One's branches, particularly these two, are failing to meet even the most basic standards of customer service.
In total, I wasted two hours of my time, endured rude and unhelpful staff, and left without the account I needed. If this is how Capital One treats their customers, it is no surprise that so many people are choosing to take their business elsewhere.
None of the staff wore name badges or carried business cards, and when I asked for their last names, they flat-out refused. This is deeply concerning and raises serious safety issues for consumers. It is likely an illegal practice in the banking industry. They take sensitive information like Social Security numbers and other personal documents, walk away with them, and we have no way of knowing who these people are.
Avoid these branches at all costs, and if you need a business account, consider taking your business to a bank that actually values...
