Mel’s Shoe Repair — Local services in New York

I brought my tabis in to get them resoled and I was drawn to Mel's because prices were cheaper than most cobblers in the city. He gets the job done fast but when I received my shoe, you can see the sole pulling apart from the shoe, glue, and an unevenly cut sole. Not to mention a scratch/peeling on the leather inside of the shoe which I know wasn't there initially since I took pictures prior.

I think this place is good for simple repairs but I'm not sure I’d recommend bringing expensive leather goods because you'll definitely get what you paid for :'(

$40 for soles + heel caps.

UPDATE: I initially left a 2 star review and called/revisited to explain the damages. He tried to tell me the damage on the shoe was already there before he repaired it. When I showed him pictures I took before the repairs, he admitted that he scratched it because he was trying to clean it.

He lied, got caught, and was aware of the damages and hoped I wouldn’t notice. Mind you, I approached in a non confrontational manner only for him to tell me not to worry about the damage because “it’s okay.” Did not offer resolutions instead brushed me off telling me it...

Great for resoling, but not for full service repair. Brought in boots where the uppers had started tearing away from the sole. The guy told me he could fix it - when I got my boots back they were different sizes and were so small they hurt my feet. They also had a gross oily black residue on the entire seam. I brought them back to ask about a refund, but the guy said he would stretch them. He did, but they’re still too small. He told me to wear them and see if they stretch out. Now I have a foot injury. Either he should have been honest with me upfront about the shoes not being able yo be repaired, or he should have given me my money back.

Good if your soles are worn down, but not for anything more technical than that. Be careful that you’re asking for something straightforward when you give this place your money - otherwise, they might just take the $$$ and make your...
