To me, a film lab should provide a feeling of safety—a place where people have so much experience that no matter the problem, they know the cause and the solution. With a professional approach to film, there are many variables, and the only way through is with clarity.
I have been using NYC Film Lab as my main lab because of their familiarity with the ECN2 process and supply of Silbersalz film, while being very reasonable price.
I have processed about 50 rolls now with NYC Film Lab, and some came back with results that I wasn’t expecting. I am happy to report that together with the lab, I was able to look at the film strips and figure out which film was actually expired or damaged, or which could be improved with a re-scan. While our relationship is only starting, It’s already very fruitful. Looking forward to our further collaboration!
FYI: X-large TIFFs are full scans from the Noritsu scanner, which are 16-bit and around 6k resolution. Pro Camera Scans are DSLR scans that are even larger, with around 12k resolution and 12-bit, but with overscans that you will have to crop.
Scans attached are unedited 35mm scans from the Noritsu in ECN2, C41, and B&W. The white border is ECN2 on Pro...
Read moreI can't recommend this film photo developing lab highly enough! From start to finish, my experience with them has been outstanding.
First of all, their turn around times are truly remarkable. I was amazed at how quickly they were able to process my film and deliver my photos to me. In fact, they were even faster than they initially promised, which was a very pleasant surprise.
But it's not just their speed that impressed me. The quality of their work is truly top-notch. My photos came back looking absolutely beautiful, with rich, vibrant colors and sharp, clear details. It's clear that they take a lot of pride in their work and really know what they're doing.
And on top of all that, their customer service is truly outstanding. They were incredibly helpful and responsive throughout the entire process, answering all of my questions and making sure that I was completely satisfied with the results. They really went above and beyond to make sure that I was happy with my order.
Overall, I couldn't be happier with my experience with this film photo developing lab. If you're looking for a reliable, high-quality lab with great turn around times and exceptional customer service,...
Read moreI've been to many labs across several countries, including one of my favourites like Rapid Eye in London or Ikigai in Melbourne, and NYC film lab disappointed - not from a service standpoint, they're lovely, but the colour shifts were crazy. Another client mentioned it in a review once before, but I didn't pay much attention to it.
The first roll was sepia / green, it got rescanned to a more neutral tone. I also found some hairs and fabric pieces on scans which has never happened before. I still wasn't happy and I got offered a GFX scan...we did that, the roll was tonal perfection and I decided to spend another 200 USD because it would save me time in post. So that's 400USD+ in total spent, so we could get it right. What I got back was BLUE. Blue in the highlights, and blue in the shadows making people look sickly and environments dreadful; all 7 rolls. It wasn't just a single roll and I'm not joking. I've been spending about two days colour correcting by hand ever single frame. When you charge the same as eg. picture house in Manhattan, you need to step up your quality game and also not deliver frames with obvious hairs + fabric...
