Read moreThis place used to be a good spot. It was always a little overrated but decent tacos combined with low prices, convenient location, and BYOB made it a solid choice for years. However, the quality has consistently gone down over the last 2 years and over the last 6-9 months it has just gotten plain bad. When avocados got expensive they stopped putting them on everything, including the veg tacos and quesadillas. They did this without changing the price (they charge the same as meaty tacos for these), the menu, or telling customers. When prices went back down, they started adding a laughably small nub to tacos and a single thin slice to quesadillas. More recently they stopped putting beans on the veggie options, again without notice and without lowering the price. The last veggie tacos and quesadillas I got there were literally lettuce and cilantro on tortillas-that's it! (the quesadilla did have a tiny bit of cheese on it). Even the quality of the tortillas have gone down. The last time I was there they were thin and dry, even on the quesadillas. My meaty friends have noted a similar, if not quite as dramatic, decline in the quality of their preferred tacos too-this isn't just a veggie problem. AND, on top of everything, they've raised prices multiple times in the last 2 years-to the tune of a 40-50% increase across the board (tacos $2=$3, quesadillas $3.50=$5). So, not only is their food garbage now, it's not even cheap (for...
This place is very overrated in my opinion. I have heard amazing things about this spot, saying that it’s one of the best taco spots in Bushwick. I have tried a lot of taco spots in Bushwick and I have to say that this is the worst one. Very little care goes into these tacos and the other food that they serve. I have tried the steak taco, the chorizo tostada, the carnitas taco, and more and I found that the meats all taste the same with very little flavor and texture, extremely bland and not hot. The texture is extremely mushy and it tastes like there are no seasonings in the meat as well as zero spice. It seems that the meat is just sitting out until someone orders something they heat it up a little. They drown the tacos in iceberg lettuce and other cold veggies to even further minimize the flavor, temperature and texture of the actual meat. Not great places to sit either. I definitely expected more from this place considering its great reputation but I have given it two tries now and both times I was extremely disappointed, as were the friends I went with. There are plenty of other amazing taco places right around the corner from this place, I definitely recommend going somewhere...
Read moreAfter an afternoon of walking around and enjoying the beautiful street art in the Bushwick Collective neighbourhood, we happened upon this mom-and-pop Mexican restaurant that seems to operate out of a small warehouse in the area. There were kids (I assume it was part of the family-owned place) that were running around and having a blast in the warehouse area.
The place is very basic with the kitchen/counter on one side of the open space while the plastic table and chairs fill the other. It doesn’t have to be pretty, just functional for a local neighbourhood eatery.
They offer a full range of Mexican eats including taquitos, tacos, tostadas, tortas, quesadillas, and more.
My YEA and I went for a family of tacos to split between us to satiate our hunger. We went for the chorizo, spicy pork, and steak variety. All three were quite good and very home-style in nature. It was flashy and had all the ingredient necessary to make it a solid taco.
We didn’t hang around for very long as we wanted to move onto our next spot. I would recommend this place as a good option for munchies after walking around the Bushwick Collective...
