Sunset Park Rooftop | Private Events Venue — Local services in New York

We had our wedding at Sunset Park Rooftop in June 2024, and unfortunately, we cannot recommend it to others. While the space itself is pleasant, our experience with the management was deeply disappointing and created unnecessary stress on what should have been a joyous day.

Throughout the planning process, we encountered numerous issues with pricing transparency. Gino, the event manager, often downplayed costs during initial discussions, only to spring additional charges on us later. His demeanor was pushy and sometimes outright rude. All of our other vendors commented on his rudeness and were exasperated by his confusing communication style. This concerned us but we tried to give the benefit of the doubt.

Despite his near-constant assertions of doing us favors and reminding us of how lucky we were to get these "deals", we never felt respected or at ease.

He promised to provide a bridal changing room and venue contact when we arrived on the day of, but no one was there when we arrived. When we were finally led to the bridal party room several hours late, empty bottles, plates, and trash were strewn throughout the entire room. The venue also booked another party during our hours of setup and random people were filtering into the area we had paid for and were ordering drinks at the bar. There were many other occasions of thoughtlessness but this review is already too long. Nonetheless, we paid in full.

Both parties planned to exchange final payments in the beginning upon arrival at the venue. We were ready to pay, but Gino arrived several hours late when we were in the middle of setting up and changing to take photographs. In the middle of our reception, he kept on asking us for the final payment. We excused ourselves from the middle of our wedding to get him the money. After taking the envelope, he claimed we were short by $1,000, which we disputed to no avail. He confronted us in an embarrassing manner during the reception itself in front of friends and family rather than waiting until after the event to discuss the matter professionally.

Additionally, despite clearly explicit instructions to not open the bar until after the ceremony, he disregarded our wishes and opened it prematurely by one hour, charging us for the time it wasn’t utilized fully (half of it was during the first 30 minutes when guests were filtering in, and the other half was during the 30 minutes of the ceremony when nobody was drinking). He also closed down the bar prematurely at the end of the night.

My wife and I are pleasant, respectful people. We paid what felt like extortion to avoid making a scene during our wedding and to keep the vibes good. The difference of a few thousand dollars in the scheme of things is not a big deal for us, and this all could have been resolved amicably. Our biggest gripe is not the money, it was the way he cynically handled situations and added stress to what should have been a special day.

Despite these challenges, our wedding day itself was beautiful, thanks to the efforts of all our other wonderful vendors and guests. I have no ill will toward the venue or management, I just hope others are aware of these very real risks...

Gino went above and beyond to make our wedding a dream. He was so kind and helpful throughout the whole process.

The rooftop is an amazing place to host parties, DJ events, etc.

The inside of the venue is big and spacious, as well as, the outside.

Our guests were just enamored with the amazing view of the city. They were all able to get amazing shots.

We are looking forward to going up there for any events they have in the future.

Also, their rooftop soccer area is huge.

The bartenders were absolutely amazing, as well as, the staff.

We had our wedding reception here in September ‘24. We weren’t looking for a traditional wedding venue but rather a fun spot for a big party with loud music, plenty of space for dancing and mingling, and a skyline view. It went exactly as we had hoped. Gino was attentive, flexible, and helpful when we needed him. It was well worth the cost especially compared to other rooftop venues...
