A'maree's — Local services in Newport Beach

The store has a chic, spacious vibe with a great selection, but our shopping experience was ruined by one employee. An older Asian woman with long, dyed blond hair acted in a way that felt discriminatory toward my pregnant friend (who shares her ethnicity), and seemed to be trying way too hard to fit in with a white standard.

At first, another employee welcomed us and let us browse comfortably. Then this older lady approached my friend out of nowhere and asked, “How did you get in? Is the door unlocked?” It felt really off. To make matters worse, she started following my friend around the store.

Her behavior made my friend uncomfortable and created a weird vibe for all of us.

If you're Asian or pregnant and want a normal shopping experience, I’d recommend skipping this place. And highly recommend this older lady to leave her own self-identity crisis at home instead of bringing into work.

While you claim to "love your clients" and provide a "no pressure experience," my friend was singled out, questioned in a demeaning manner, and made to feel unwelcome. This is unacceptable, regardless of your years in business.

My intent was to raise a genuine concern, not to launch a personal attack. I hope this can be a learning experience to ensure all customers feel comfortable and respected...

An exquisite boutique shop that carries high end to ultra high end clothing, accessories, shoes and everything in between. I can only speak for the men’s side which includes the row, visvim, jil sander etc as it’s womenswear focused. Impeccable curation that you may not find anywhere else. Beautiful space and layout as well.

Having been to shops like The Row, high end stores tend to have staff that are a bit dismissive but amarees staff still let me try stuff on both times I’ve been and answered my questions. Just wish they would just let me browse instead of following me everywhere like I’m going to steal something 😬(I was dressed fairly well 🥲).

I get it, the merchandise is all quite expensive well into 5 digits for some and I’m sure they get a lot of window shoppers too.
