Mr. Sid — Local services in Newton

Got a 3pc tailored suit that I was looking forward to adding to my collection for some time. Sad to say that Mr. Sid was not the right choice for my wallet. At their lowest price point (~$2.5k), Mr Sid is NOT a true bespoke suit shop, despite the impression I received from their advertising. Suits are ordered from a personalized template in Italy and then altered to fit just like could be done with any off-the-rack SuitSupply (only with the added cost of transatlantic shipping). By my metrics, a similar garment and experience could be procured for less, especially in another region of the world (this would be without the added benefits of being part of the Mr Sid family).

Any hitches in the process of designing, ordering, payment, fitting, etc felt as if it was my fault. For instance, I asked for the rise to be let out, only to be talked into it being "good enough" because it wasn't "uncomfortably high".

In the end, I'm a bit unsatisfied with the end product's fabric quality and fit (two non-negotiable factors for me), but I do like the design choices I made. My Suit is full-canvas with Italian fabrics, so I'm hopeful for its longevity. Mr Sid has a reputation for maintaining the suits they sell, so I can't foresee this being an issue. I would take the opportunity for a return in a heartbeat.

I bought a made-to-order dinner jacket at Mr. Sid for my wedding. Unfortunately, my wife and I were not happy with the result when it arrived. Before ordering, the store did not have a physical example in stock to show us with the same collar and color, but we shared photos with examples of exactly what we wanted and were acknowledged that is what we’d be receiving. The jacket that we received did not look like these examples. It also arrived roughly two weeks before my wedding after we ordered it about ten weeks prior. I ended up having to make a last minute purchase at Ralph Lauren that worked well and did not use the jacket from Mr. Sid. It is still at the store.

I complement the store during the purchase process - the staff was friendly and helpful and I bought additional pieces of clothing that were of high quality. Unfortunately, the store would not honor a return or store credit for any amount of the dinner jacket (only suggesting an unknown discount if I purchased more items), even though I wouldn’t be wearing it for my wedding. After many respectful requests in person, on calls, and over email since first seeing the jacket months ago, no sort of reimbursement or credit has been provided. It’s disappointing because Mr. Sid is a unique store and I would have been a long term customer and recommended friends here if there was a better customer service component...

I have been shopping at Mr. Sid since my first real job out of school when I bought my first dress shirts. They have made custom suits, blazers, and shirts for me and always take care to get the details right. Most recently I had the team at Mr. Sid make a custom suit for my wedding. I brought in a couple of pictures for inspiration of what I wanted. Barry and their Head Tailor, Dale worked with me to turn my inspiration into exactly what I was looking for. We used Ermenegildo Zegna fabric and created a gorgeous three-piece suit. They met all the timelines we had, considering I came in with less notice than typical.

I could not be happier with this suit, and the beautiful shirt we had made as well. When your wedding guests comment on your suit, as much as your bride's dress, you know you did well.

Mr. Sid is such a gem of a store. They have an amazing "old school" barber shop downstairs. Their selection of mens wear, and quality of brands they carry is second to no one in Boston.
