I absolutely love coming to this Wegmans. They have a nice selection of food etc. Literally everything you need. It’s also closer to where I live. But the moment you go up to the self checkout especially as a black person, it seems like everyone is watching you and only YOU. The employees either walk back and forth staring at you ring up your items, or they just stand there about 10 feet away watching you. I do not have the time nor energy to steal. I don’t have the time to be doing nonsense. I come to get my groceries/quick dinners or lunch and get out. This has happened to me about twice so far for the past 2 days. It’s truly disgusting and disrespectful. If I need help, I will ask. If I don’t need help, I will not ask any questions. But the employees always seem to “think” that we need help. Just because I stand there for a minute and think to myself doesn’t mean I need HELP. Please leave me alone and let me do what I need to do and let me pay for my food and be out. I was at the self checkout the other day, and I placed an item to the side to see if I really needed it but still continued scanning my other items. Apparently the machine went off and said that I placed an item to the side. Here comes one employee running over to me asking what’s going on (making it seem like I sneakily placed something in my bag and not ring it up.) I told her I placed it to the side because I am not sure yet if I want to buy it. She stood there for about a good 10 seconds watching my screen to make sure I was ringing up my items. It was very uncomfortable. I then went today again to get some last minute dinner items and as I was paying for my food, I had to transfer over some money onto my checking account. Apparently the sign of my self checkout boot was flashing, but again nothing was wrong with it. Here comes 2 employees running over to me. Again, I was very annoyed because nothing was wrong with the machine. One of them tried explaining what was going on, but I felt like honestly she was being dramatic. It just feels like they are keeping tabs on me because of the color of my skin when someone who is the opposite race could be doing the most and not even paying attention to them! I’m so sick of it. I’ve never had that experience at the Wegmans in Westwood nor even at this location. But now all of the sudden the employees are staring me down to make sure I don’t run out the store/pay for my items. For God sakes it’s FOOD for crying out loud. They need to do better at...
Read moreMy beloved Wegman's... Before you were around Star Market was the only other place that catered to my night owl shopping habits! I'm fortunate that I live so close by.
The first experience was overwhelming and like many other people I entered through the liquor store, which is quite impressive on its own. I browsed all the aisles trying to figure out what all the hype was about. I wasn't sold yet, but a few trips later I'm in love! FYI the cakes are amazing! I got the marbled one for my SO's birthday and everyone including me wanted seconds immediately.
What sets this place apart from all other grocery stores I've been to is the entire shopping experience. This place inspires me to try new brands and foods. I always find great deals with their wonderful family packs and weekly/monthly coupons. Somehow they are able to satisfy my desire for bulk shopping and specialty food items. Plus it's always a bonus when there's a liquor store with discounted prices too! I can get all of my shopping done in one place. Oh, and as a proud bargain hunter, I've also scored some amazing deals on the clearance/discontinued items that were 75% marked down!
One annoyance I had was that Wegman's would pre-charge you for bottles and cans deposits so it actually turned me into a hardcore recycler so we don't lose $ on our beverage purchases. Now they no longer give out plastic bags (good riddance) and only bag with paper bags I think that's the city wide policy. These are just a minor drawback to all of the joy this...
Read morethis is not a rating against Wegmans, it's about this location, too cramped to get a full Wegmans experience. Isles are tight and full of instacart guys that don't know where stuff is located, so they park their cart in the middle of the isle blocking it while they take their sweet time to search for the items they need to fetch. I guess the small size doesn't allow them also to have proper stocks, but it doesn't take a PhD in logistics to understand that if coke zero is always running out of stock and you have plenty of other coke variants, maybe you have an issue with your inventory system. and this is just an example, it happens with a lot of other products. other pain points: people at the register are way less efficient than in other stores: if somebody is not busy, they should not come and have a 5 min random chat with the guy at my register, unless they are helping with something e.g. bagging. Also, while I sometimes appreciate the convenience of pre-sliced deli products, I don't need to be reminded every time that they have grab-and-go packages... if I want 1/2 Lb of ham freshly sliced I should not be asked to get a full pound of pre-sliced that had been sitting there for I don't know how long... I still value Wegmans quality and maybe i was spoiled by their Natick location, but the reality is that this place is not up to the standards and there are plenty of other options without the need to drive an additional 20-30 min to the next...
