The Oil Tree — Local services in Nichols Hills

My daughter and I were there last Friday for the first time. Wonderful, wonderful place! We went in with the idea of looking around and were there for well over an hour. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We got there just as they opened and they really scurried around to get samples of everything out as quickly as possible. It was a culinary tasting event. The blackberry/ginger balsamic was a delightful surprise. They suggested combining it with lime olive oil, but we truly liked the lemon. They have salts, spices, tapenades, breads, and it is all presented in such a tasteful and complimentary way. The best thing is the staff. So often in specialty stores, unless you are a regular patron, you are treated as though the in-house staff knows everything and they help in a condescending manner as though the customer knows nothing. This is truly not the case at Olive & Co. They are helpful in a most gracious and considerate way. When we wanted to just look and taste they were attentive but let us look and taste. When we had questions they were helpful and knowledgeable. The prices were very reasonable for such high quality products. I will return to this store often. Handy location as well. Would give this 0 stars if I could. Oil was so rancid it tasted like crayons. Staff tried to get me into a discussion of whether truffle oil or truffle salt was better. Frankly I don't care it you cook your eggs in truffle oil...can't help if you are that uneducated. Tried to tell me their skincare line was all organic and natural...please educate yourselves. It was not all organic...contained several preservatives that were chemically based...can't be considered organic. Contains sodium benzoate...known to cause cancer and phenoxyethanol...banned in Japan due to the cause of brain damage. Please don't try to tell people that the burn they feel is from the anti oxidants in the oil....true...but the oil was horrible and soapy. I am a chef...and a super-taster...can't fool this palate. The staff was terribly uneducated...unhelpful and down right rude. Will not ever recommend or visit this...

While watching Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat on Netflix I was struck by people drinking olive oil straight. At first I was a bit put off and then I thought, "You know what? I've never had olive oil like they're trying. It's probably unlike anything I've tasted before." Well I'm happy to say with finding The Oil Tree I HAVE tasted olive oil good enough to sip and my life is definitely the fuller for it.

The basic oil and balsamic vinegar mixed together was a revelation showing just how good simple, but good, ingredients can be together. The different flavored oil and flavored vinegar were excellent as well and it was difficult making a decision. The staff were all incredibly helpful in helping us and letting us know all about the different things we were trying and how to put them together. Go, try it, you will...
