Good Times Summer Day Camp — Local services in Niles Township

This is the best camp I’ve ever been to. GT is ran by Papa Dave, Dave Jr., Danny, and Madison Clatch. My two brothers and I ( both are counselors ) are always warmly welcomed into the camp each year and always have an amazing camp experience. The mixture of activities every single day, including; field trips every Monday Wednesday ( and they are very fun ), swimming every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. There is a mixture of pools we go to and I always have a blast. Every week there is a camper and counselor challenge which will involves every group and counselor. There is bumper kickball every Thursday and a dance party every Friday + dress up day. Tokens are used at GT and are used to buy concessions which is every day after we return from the event. Tokens are earned by good behavior and/or helping out in any way. This promotes good attitude since campers are rewarded for good behavior. Concessions offers anything from chips, nachos, ice creams, slushees, sodas, and an assortment of candies. Almost anyone can try out any work at concessions, all you have to do is ask Dave Jr. to add you on the list. The counsleres are a mixture of hilarious, kind, and have a first priority of safeness. Counselors do a number checks of campers every time we leave an area (especially the younger campers) and bus checks. The owners are hilarious and have created an amazing camp, doing as much they can to make camp as fun as possible. A camper can interview to become a counselor at the age of 16 and can become a gopher (aka. a helper in their group of choice) to practice for when they 16 if they want to have the chance at being a counselor. Counselors make very good money, while at the same time having tons of fun and having good times. Overall, I cannot describe the amount of fun that I’ve experienced over the some years I’ve been to this camp. If your looking for a camp for your child or your older son/daughter(s) needs a job over the summer, then Good Times is the best...

It feels awkward to go against the tide on this, but here goes: There are wonderful things about this camp - the range of activities, the field trips, cookouts, friendly counselors, flexible scheduling and a very well-meaning staff. Arcades, water parks and endless junk food? What's not to love?

That said, we won't go back. Unfortunately, this camp attracts some very nasty kids (NOT the majority - there are great kids too) and the counselors are not trained to watch for/preempt bad behavior. If a kid tells adulta, the adults will deal with it - promptly and well. But that puts the kid in the position of being a tattletale, which doesn't always work, especially as kids get older.

Things we experienced: a child not letting my child sit on the bus with him because my child didn't have a smartphone 5th grade boys sitting next to first grade girls on the bus saying things like "do you know what a vagina is?" "Do you know what this (screwing hand gesture) means?" The counselors were sitting together in a part of the bus, oblivious. a child calling my child "fking bch jacka** crap" because my child didn't want to go on a roller coaster. an adult male NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE CAMP giving the little girls go-cart rides because they weren't tall enough to go on their own. Dear Good Times Summer Day Camp Team,

I just wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks to you and everyone involved for providing such an amazing first summer camp experience for our daughter, Hannah. She had a truly wonderful time, every day was filled with excitement, learning, laughter, and so much fun.

It meant the world to us to see how eagerly she looked forward to camp each morning and how enthusiastically she shared her stories with us every evening. It’s clear that the environment you’ve created is not only fun and engaging but also warm, supportive, and enriching.

We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have Hannah be part of this year’s program. She’s made new friends, grown in confidence, and built memories that she’ll carry with her long after summer
